As part of the exhibition program of the Museo Experimental El Eco, the open call for the Eco Pavilion 2020 was launched, inviting professionals practicing architecture in Mexico to engage in a dialogue with the museum's space. This edition marks the 10th anniversary of the Eco Pavilion, a competition launched in partnership with Buró-Buró to provide a platform for architectural production focusing on experimentation and spatial reflection.

For the fifth time, the MEXTRÓPOLI Architecture and City Festival held the Arquine No. 22 | MEXTRÓPOLI Pavilion 2020 competition. On January 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the jury—composed of Tatiana Bilbao, Ruth Estévez, Carlos Facio, Alberto Odériz, Saidee Springall, and Alejandro Tapia (as technical juror)—met at the Arquine offices to evaluate the 292 submitted proposals out of the 389 registered.

In November of this year, the latest edition of the Minsk International Biennale of Young Architects was held in Belarus. Among the award-winning projects, the prestigious "Great Grand Prix Leonardo" was awarded to the Municipal Toy Library of Dólar in Spain, designed by Carquero Arquitectura.

The Richard H. Driehaus Architecture Competition seeks to revitalize traditional architecture in overlooked areas of Spanish towns, while promoting the work of local artisans and builders. In this first phase, municipalities submitted proposals to rehabilitate or remodel various architectural spaces. Out of all the submissions, Alzira (Valencia), Santa Cruz de la Palma (Tenerife), Santiago de Compostela (La Coruña), and Guadix (Granada) were selected.

Within the framework of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP25), the Official Association of Architects of Madrid (COAM) will host, from December 2 to 13, the conference “Architecture Facing Climate Change: Time to Act,” as part of the Castellana Verde Axis. The objective of this initiative, which stems from a collaboration between COAM, the Higher Council of Colleges of Architects of Spain (CSCAE), and the CSCAE's “Observatorio 2030,” is to raise public awareness about the key role cities play in the fight against climate change and to promote shared strategies within the building sector to help curb global warming.

On the occasion of the recent XXI Chilean Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism, the curatorial team consisting of Beatriz Coeffé, Juan Pablo Urrutia, Vesna Obilinovic, Tomás Villalón, and Joaquín González spoke with Chilean architect Enrique Walker. An academic and former director of the Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design program at Columbia GSAPP from 2008 to 2018, Walker has explored throughout his career an interest in the everyday in architecture.

Countries that are part of the so-called “global south” have undergone many transformations in their cities and urban contexts in recent years due to the economic and social challenges they face. Urban growth, sustainable development, quality of life and health in emerging cities, and the development of their own cultural identity have been some of the issues that local architecture had to incorporate.

Young architects have understood the importance of making an architecture that is deeply rooted in their own territory while giving this architecture a clear local identity. By generating new typologies and using their own resources and materials, they have presented innovative, site-specific, and, above all, solutions with a new fresh focus towards what represents them as creators of this architecture.

Architect Alberto Campo Baeza has been awarded the Gold Medal for Architecture, Spain's most prestigious architectural honor, which has been presented by the professional association of architects since 1981. Established by the Superior Council of Architects' Associations of Spain (CSCAE), the Gold Medal recognizes the dedication of individuals and institutions whose work elevates the field of architecture.

The XI Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (XI BIAU) concluded last Friday, October 11, in Asunción, featuring lectures by Jorge Scrimaglio, one of the two winners of the 2019 Ibero-American Architecture Prize, and a closing lecture by Solano Benítez and Gloria Cabral, co-founders of Gabinete de Arquitectura.
