Student projects at a 1:1 scale to learn about the different territories of Peru

1:1 Proyectos sobre los territorios del Perú is a book by Peter Seinfeld and Felipe Ferrer that summarizes their students' work over more than seven years.

Felipe Ferrer notes: "The best way to learn is by doing—that is the core principle of our studio. Asking 'How is it made?' prompts an investigation, an understanding, and a planning process that the studio materializes in the construction of a 1:1 scale module. Each semester's process begins with a trip to explore different realities, geographic conditions, and climates. We leverage these variables to motivate students through new stimuli. The process requires innovation and proposes digital fabrication as its methodology."

What we value most about this approach is returning control of project production to the designer, from conception to the preparation of final drawings for each component, and even designing the assembly instructions so that anyone can build it later. We work with cutting-edge global technologies and weave them together with local construction techniques and artisanal processes. We believe that the intersection of high-tech and low-tech is key to understanding the potential of the contexts in which we work.
