Since 1877, barth has created bespoke interior solutions for jewelers, boutiques, museums, company headquarters, private residences, and hospitality spaces around the world.
Museum Voorlinden, located in the quiet dunes of Wassenaar near The Hague, is a private museum where contemporary art, architecture, and nature meet. The museum was designed by Andrea Milani in collaboration with Kraaijvanger Architects to provide an immersive, contemplative visitor experience. In support of this vision, barth contributed a series of bespoke interior elements, including the auditorium, library, entrance areas, and custom display furnishings throughout the building.
Designed as an extension of the surrounding landscape, the museum’s architecture features floor-to-ceiling glazing and a finely detailed roof structure with integrated skylights, creating soft, natural light throughout the space. The building’s architectural rhythm is subtle and precise, allowing the artworks and surroundings to take center stage. Within this serene context, barth’s role was to develop and execute complex interior components that maintained the clarity of the architectural vision while meeting demanding technical and functional criteria.

One of the key contributions is the museum auditorium, where barth developed and installed a unique acoustic system composed of four truncated conical arches made from precisely spaced wooden louvres. This form continues seamlessly across the rear wall and into the ceiling, integrating lighting and concealing building services. The result is both sculptural and highly technical, designed to meet strict acoustic performance standards while preserving the visual calm of the space.

In the library, which houses over 40,000 art-related volumes, barth created a two-story architectural framework tailored to preserve rare books in climate- and light-controlled conditions. A helical staircase with a wide radius links the two levels and serves as a focal point, crowned by a sculptural handrail crafted from solid wood. Designed with varying ergonomic profiles, the handrail subtly invites touch and movement, continuing along the upper floor’s glass balustrades like a suspended ribbon.

Beyond these signature spaces, barth also delivered integrated millwork and custom furnishings throughout the museum. In the entrance and shop areas, vitrines and counters echo the museum’s refined material language, while wall claddings—many with built-in seating—extend a quiet invitation to pause. Each element reflects barth’s values of clarity, precision, and respect for both architecture and art.
