HIMACS, developed by LX Hausys, is a solid surface material that can be moulded into any shape and is widely used for architectural and interior applications. The brand reflects LX Hausys’ focus on design, sustainability, and durability, offering solutions for kitchens, bathrooms, and other spaces.
Made from acrylic, natural minerals, and pigments, HIMACS is a versatile surface that can be used for wall cladding, kitchen and bathroom surfaces, and bespoke furniture, across residential, commercial, and public projects.
HIMACS Solid Surface in Alpine White was used in the transformation of the Urania Sports & Entertainment Center, located in Olsztyn, Poland. First opened in 1978, the venue has been fully refurbished with a new façade that enhances both its appearance and functionality, reaffirming its role as a cultural and sports landmark for the city.
Led by Dorota Szymaniak of Urban Architect Studio, the project extended beyond the refurbishment of the arena to include an outdoor ice rink, underground and above-ground parking, landscaped public areas, and updated technical infrastructure. At its core, the design introduces a 2,100 m² façade with a geometric honeycomb pattern, giving the building a renewed sense of transparency, rhythm, and contemporary urban presence.
More than 450 wide HIMACS sheets were CNC-milled into custom elements, enabling precise lettering, backlit motifs, and curved details. The product was selected for its seamless fabrication, durability, and certified fire resistance, having received the NRO (Non-Spreading Fire) accreditation from the Polish Fire Test Facility (ITB). In addition, the Alpine White S728 colour has obtained European Technical Approval (ETA) for façades, making HIMACS one of the few solid surface materials authorised for outdoor architectural use in Europe.
The result is a bold and functional building envelope that combines architectural expression with technical performance. With its distinctive honeycomb geometry, luminous detailing, and robust performance, the HIMACS façade of Urania Sports & Entertainment Centre demonstrates how solid surface materials can redefine large-scale public architecture.
