Energy efficient LED fixtures in the Bullitt Center | A-Light

A-Light is a manufacturer of high-performance architectural luminaires designed to elevate contemporary spaces with visual precision and minimal forms. A-Light’s D3 and D4 Accolade fixtures were used throughout the Bullitt Center in Seattle, an internationally recognized project designed by Miller Hull Partnership and considered one of the most sustainable commercial buildings in the world.

Completed in 2013, the six-story, 50,000 sq.ft. structure is the headquarters of the Bullitt Foundation and serves as a replicable model for high-performance urban architecture. The Bullitt Center is the first urban mid-rise commercial project to achieve full Living Building Challenge certification, setting an ambitious benchmark for regenerative design.

Conceived as a “living laboratory,” the building integrates renewable energy, on-site water treatment, composting toilets, and healthy material sourcing to operate with zero environmental footprint. The heavy-timber structure, floor-to-ceiling operable windows, and overhanging rooftop solar array reflect the regional design vernacular while showcasing new possibilities for environmental stewardship in the built environment.

A-Light’s D3 surface-mounted luminaires were installed throughout the open office floors and stairwells to provide efficient, uniform illumination that complements the natural light from oversized windows and high ceilings. In the building’s entrance and along the façade, a custom-cut D4 linear fixture was mullion-mounted from wall to wall, highlighting the structure’s rhythm while preserving visual minimalism. Together, these luminaires support the Bullitt Center’s energy reduction goals—achieving 83% greater efficiency than typical Seattle office buildings—and contribute to its mission of wellness, transparency, and sustainable innovation.
