More about this product

A-Light is a manufacturer of high-performance architectural luminaires designed to elevate contemporary spaces with visual precision and minimal forms.

A-Light’s Atom linear luminaires were featured in the renovation of Pier D at Vancouver International Airport. Designed by Kasian Architecture with lighting design by WSP, the project builds on the airport’s ongoing commitment to regional storytelling through architecture, materials, and light.

Vancouver International Airport has earned the title of Best Airport in North America for over a decade, due in part to its immersive design approach centered around the theme “Sense of Place.” The Pier D expansion reinforces this theme with new elements such as an atrium of live hemlock trees and a nature-inspired digital experience. In the lighting scheme, WSP’s design team replaced outdated fluorescent systems with A-Light’s high-efficiency Atom pendants, reimagined to evoke the visual rhythm of a log jam—an homage to British Columbia’s historic lumber trade.

A-Light’s Atom fixtures were suspended in randomized patterns across the expansive ceiling using 4-, 8-, and 12-foot modules in green, turquoise, and purple finishes to match the airport’s identity. Positioned at different angles and heights, the pendants maintain a consistent visual line at the pivot point, offering both sculptural impact and performance. Each luminaire provides high-efficiency direct and indirect illumination, paired with dimming controls responsive to daylight through floor-to-ceiling glazing.

The custom optics, 3500K color temperature, and Lambertian light distribution ensure traveler comfort while significantly reducing energy and maintenance costs. The project stands as a successful case of lighting enhancing both narrative and utility in a high-traffic public space.
