More about this product

The BAGUETTE is a type of rainscreen glazed facade tile produced by MOEDING, characterized by its tubular volumetry, which can also be customized for different purposes but is mostly used as an exterior layer to compose facades, where the space between BAGUETTES can let the inner facade be seen from the outside, or allow air and sunlight through.

At the Kaleidoscope building in Farringdon, London, these two types of brick tiles were implemented on the three-dimensional facade, composed of a grid that frames floor-to-ceiling window walls of finely scaled glass with thick, beige columns on the front, but reveals colorful panels on the sides of each front-facing terracotta beige face. The complex contains a 5000 m2 working area.

The 22 colors of the sides of the facades are meant to represent the identity of the area, home to 19th-century warehouses and the Smithfield Market. The colorful glazed panels were installed in just one direction, and they were designed in collaboration with the firm James & Taylor. Particular tiles were painted by the ceramic artist Peter Wood, who used a spraying technique with dark speckles to achieve a patina effect.

The ground floor integrates public transport alongside its double-height lobby, and the roof has a deck for company employees.

BAGUETTES are long-format, hollow ceramic elements fastened using special holders. In the case of specific requirements (fall protection), they can be threaded onto an aluminum tube and attached to the structure using object-related holders. The systems developed for the BAGUETTE are based on the existing systems for the other MOEDING products ALPHATON® and LONGOTON® and use similar components.

The installation system depends on its intended use and the local context of the building. Fastening of the aluminum structure can be done in three different ways: installation with rearward attachment, lateral attachment using screw traps, or using a rapid system.
