Characteristics
Energy-efficient solutions for new projects and existing buildings.
Energy used to power, heat and cool buildings is responsible for up to 80% of CO2 emissions in cities. By designing and retrofitting buildings with thermal insulation and advanced roofing systems to improve energy efficiency, there is a unique opportunity to speed up the transition to the cities of the future.
Holcim stands ready to support its customers with energy-efficient solutions for new projects and existing buildings.
- With the Elevate and ZinCo brands, Holcim provides a wide range of energy-efficient, high-performance green roofing systems*. Green roofs remove heat from the air, and by acting as insulation, they can reduce surface temperatures by 30-40% compared to conventional roofs. While reducing a building’s cooling and heating needs, they also bring nature into cities, allow biodiversity to thrive, and provide stormwater management.
- Made of up to 95% air, Airium™ is an extremely lightweight mineral-based insulating foam. For both new builds and retrofits, it is recyclable as mineral aggregate, fire resistant and durable, and can be used in roofs, walls, floors and terraces, as well as inside concrete blocks.
- PRB External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems (ETICS) are multilayer insulation solutions applied to a building’s exterior surfaces that improve energy efficiency and reduce heat loss compared to uninsulated surfaces by 20-30%.
*Green roof systems are designed to support urban biodiversity, with independent datasheets available here.
Application in Casa d'en xifré
| Location | Barcelona, Spain |
| Type of Building | Residential |
| Landscape Architecture Firm | Landprocess |
| Application | The house was renovated to include an accessible terrace garden designed to support urban biodiversity. The roof garden was built using RubberGard EPDM waterproofing membrane and a ZinCo green roofing system. |
Application in Les Trèfles School
| Location | Anderlecht, Belgium |
| Type of Building | Mixed-use |
| Project Type | Renovation |
| Application | Les Trèfles school is built following the passive house approach, a model for low-energy design and high energy performance. An Elevate UltraPly™ TPO roofing system provides supports energy efficiency and provides a durable foundation for a 7000m2 green roof. |
Application in Al Wasl Tower
| Location | Dubai, UAE |
| Project Type | New Build |
