Studios Architecture is a progressive, international practice that made a name for them themselves working with tech clients in the 1980s. Their San Francisco branch has had important input into the development of the American workspace, repurposing and subverting the conventions common to corporate design. In the design of their own office space, they opted for bathroom equipment from The Splash Lab.
The non-hierarchical practice at Studios Architecture works on evolving the workspace; when they relocated from their original studio space designed by the firm, into a full floor of an office tower in the Financial District, they had to find a way to adapt the space, making it suit their ethos. The surroundings included sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay and interesting neighboring architecture, however, inside, the location was not exactly suited to conveying the prestige and uniqueness of their vision.
Studios was a frequent collaborator with The Splash Lab on projects, and their familiarity with their product line led them to select the Ribbon Collection and Monolith Basin System for their home base. The restrooms at the office are comparatively low traffic, so STUDIOS’ interiors team chose a traditional layout, making use of the customizability of the Monolith solid surface material and choice of PVD finishes on the Ribbon collection.
Materials and Finishes
Specified in Carbon Concrete Corian™, the Monolith Basin System showcases the industrial cool of a concrete sink, while conveniently sidestepping the pitfalls (cracking, staining, sealing) associated with concrete. Paired with the black PVD-finished Ribbon tap and soap dispenser and mounted onto a wall of vertical gray subway tile, the restroom fixtures and finishes showcase an installation of The Splash Lab products that is versatile and distinctive.
The Monolith Basin and the Ribbon Collection
The Splash Lab designs and produces commercial washroom products and modular bathroom systems. Two of their collections, Monolith and Ribbon work well in combination for commercial and public restroom designs and ADA compliant washrooms.
