‘Sukkah City: New York City’ will re-imagine this ancient phenomenon, develop new methods of material practice and parametric design, and propose radical possibilities for traditional design constraints in a contemporary urban site. Twelve finalists will be selected by a panel of celebrated architects, designers, and critics to be constructed in a visionary village in Union Square Park from September 19-21, 2010.
Mantownhuman hosts Critical Subjects, Architecture & Design Winter School on 17-18 November. Critical Subjects is a unique opportunity for 20 or so of the keenest students in the country to engage in a series of intellectual architectural design challenges facilitated by leading names in the field.

Prism Gallery / PATTERNS PATTERNS has designed a new three story cultural center for West Hollywood, California. The center, known as Prism, will become a cornerstone of artistic experimentation, carving a new niche for the arts in Southern California. 1111 Lincoln Road / Herzog & de Meuron This mixed use project is currently being built at the corner of Alton and Lincoln, one of the most active pedestrian areas in the city, and it will include residences, retail spaces and parking. Anand Bungalows shared with us their 1st Upcycle Container Home in Malaysia. A green design that doesn’t look like a container at all.
DETAIL Magazine is a very good reference to understand the details of contemporary buildings, grouped by materiality/program.
In DETAIL offers a compilation of works grouped under a given theme, in book format. In this case, Exhibitions and Displays covers a wide selection of projects (with highly detailed drawings, as usual in DETAIL) ranging from museums to a supermarket, along with articles on branding, sustainability on temporary projects, and more.

CCCWall is an installation realized by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma at the important Milanese Fuorisalone 2010 event. The installation is an anticipation of Kengo Kuma’s first actual architecture ever done in Italy, currently about to be completed near the headquarters of Casalgrande Padana, in Reggio Emilia, Italy.

After having been one of the first places in the world to be hit by a catastrophic event as a result of global warming, Indonesia has managed to recover from such devastation and chaos. In the wake of the images which were broadcast around the world just a few years ago, we have been witnesses to how tsunamis, contrary to what we might have believed, have become more frequent –as in the recent case of the earthquake in Chile- and this fact has led us to the conclusion that more than ever planning is needed for a prevention and research center.
Architect Daniel Libeskind (see his projects here) will discuss the symbolism and architectural expression of commemoration. The Charles H. Atherton Memorial Lecture is part of the National Building Museum Symposium “Power, Architecture and Politics: The U.S. Commission of Fine Arts and the Design of Washington”.

House in Romeirão The site has a strong rural character, with small plantations, orchards and pathways limited by roughly made stone property walls and, once in a while, houses, scattered in the landscape. The Emilio Ambasz Prize for Green Architecture were awarded in Israel. Among all the categories, there’s an International Prize for buildings outside Israel. You can check the International Prize winners after the break, and see all the winners right here.
Edinburgh-based Groves-Raines Architects shared with us a recently completed project of a small composting shed in a private garden, which was awarded an American Institute of Architects Excellence in Design Award. The structure is an organic extension of the garden and the woven edging to the paths from which it springs. Its origins are derived from basket weave or hazel hurdles using woven rebar and Corten Steel.
