In cities, most open space is dedicated to vehicle traffic and parking, while only a small percentage is allocated to people and their daily activities. For this reason, the Parque(ando) proposal involves temporarily occupying parking spaces to expand their potential for collective use, thereby promoting socialization, cultural expression and diversity, play, community, the appropriation of our spaces, and generosity.
2019 marks the tenth anniversary of the first edition held in Concepción, Chile. That pioneering congress in Latin America brought together academics, professionals, technicians, and companies from the forestry and timber sector, building a solid foundation of critical mass that, over the years, has led to productive exchanges, shared approaches, and the development of strategies among countries in the region. Subsequent editions in 2017 in Junín (Argentina) and 2018 in San Carlos (Brazil) solidified its status as a synergistic forum.
Starting May 15 at 7:30 PM, the exhibition "Premios y Obras" (Awards and Works) will be on display at the Sociedad Central de Arquitectos (Montevideo 938, CABA). The exhibition compiles winning projects from public competitions held over the last 10 years. WHAT IS MAU?
The Architecture and Urbanism Moment at the Federal University of Paraíba (MAU-UFPB) is an annual, non-profit event organized by students in collaboration with the Academic Center for the Architecture and Urbanism Program (CACAU-UFPB). It aims to foster participatory and democratic discussions regarding the proposed theme within the field of architecture and urbanism. The event is structured around various activities planned according to specific themes, organized into discussion circles, lectures, workshops, experiential sessions, and conferences. For the eighth consecutive year, the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture is hosting an exhibition of final degree projects at the restored Ca l'Alier factory in the Poblenou district. Titled "22@_What? How to achieve balance in Northern Poblenou, Barcelona," the exhibition reexamines the 22@ Plan, launched by the Barcelona City Council in 2000 to repurpose the neighborhood's former industrial zones. The plan aimed to create a compact city model where businesses, universities, research centers, and technology transfer hubs could coexist with housing, public facilities, and green spaces. Twenty years later, UIC Barcelona students have taken up the challenge, presenting new programmatic and architectural proposals for Northern Poblenou—a territory they believe is in need of new solutions and patterns.
Fernando Pérez, Smiljan Radic, and writer Pablo Simonetti will present the book "Horacio Borgheresi. 1930-2012," which will be launched by the Universidad Finis Terrae School of Architecture on Thursday, December 19, at 7:00 p.m. at Casa Jordán, a project designed by Borgheresi in 1964.
