Archstorming is collaborating on this new competition with His Hands On Africa ("HHOA"), a non-profit organization founded in 2016 that aims to address the lack of dental services in developing countries. The chosen location is Rwanda, a small country in the heart of Africa.
In Rwanda, 18% of morbidity cases are directly related to treatable oral diseases that are easily preventable and curable with access to basic dental care and education, according to 2016 reports from the Rwanda District Hospital. Currently, Rwanda has 48 dentists for a population of nearly 12 million, which translates to approximately one dentist for every 250,000 patients. By comparison, the United States has approximately one dentist for every 1,600 patients. Despite significant efforts to rebuild the country, the need for more dental care professionals is greater than ever.
In this competition, we will help HHOA build a Dental Clinic and Training Institute in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. The winning proposal will be built.
