Udaipur Workshop - Water, Public Space and The Medieval City by CityLabs India
The Medieval city of Udaipur is a unique historical example of a settlement pattern that is a result of its topography and water systems. It forms a fine study to understand how the medieval cities in western India established a close-knit relationship with nature. In this workshop, the participants will learn to observe and analyse the spatial structure of the city, the character of its public spaces and its correlation with topography and water. The workshop will also explore themes of community spaces, urban structures, water systems and the role of civic architecture. The workshop will entail on-field observation & documentation, followed by discussions and presentations.
The Daniels Faculty at the University of Toronto and Black Students in Design (BSD) are launching a 10-week mentorship program called Building Black Success through Design (BBSD). BBSD is a free mentorship + design competition created by Black students for Black students interested in design and architecture. Participants in this program will work with Black architecture and design university students who will act as mentors, guiding them through a series of workshops that reflect each step of the design competition. The Applied Arts from Nature Residency is an initiative organized between Passa Ao Futuro and Loulé Criativo with the aim of exploring and preserving the intangible heritage and the Portuguese cultural heritage of local crafts(wo)men; re-thinking the historical past, facilitating collaboration and innovation between crafts(wo)men and national and international designers and architects in the creation of new contemporary utilitarian pieces; inspiring younger generations to continue this heritage specifically within the practices of regenerative design.

BUFFALO, NY — The sixth consecutive Architectural Ceramic Assemblies Workshop (ACAW) will take place on August 19, 2021, commencing with an opening keynote speech by Tod Williams and Billie Tsien, principals of Tod Williams and Billie Tsien Architects | Partners. ACAW is an industry-academic collaborative workshop hosted by Boston Valley Terra Cotta, with Carnegie Mellon University School of Architecture and the University at Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning. Its aim is to broaden industry professionals’ knowledge of the performance of terra cotta, encouraging a deeper understanding of manufacturing architectural ceramics that will inform next-generation designs. Guided by terra cotta manufacturers and ceramicists, eight teams of architects, façade engineers, and educators work together over the course of the workshop to share knowledge and gain experience developing terra cotta wall assemblies. Visual mockups – constructed by the teams on-site at Boston Valley – will be virtually presented during the conference. The event is concluded by closing keynote speaker Mic Patterson, PHD and LEED AP+ of Façade Tectonics Institute.
d.talks Share Your Story workshop on June 24th, 6:30-8 p.m. is an opportunity for us to celebrate our sense of place as a means to rebuild community. In this workshop, we will extend our ongoing conversation on place and memory and turn our memories about place into mini stories.

Collaborative Building Workshop -Rural Community Market- Summer 2021.
Background This workshop is part of a wider initiative started in 2018, to introduce sustainable construction materials to an area whose environment has been greatly affected by the deforestation caused by the production of fired bricks. Based in Maji Moto, Tanzania, the project aims to bring together environmental awareness and community resilience.
The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) is glad to launch another edition of the Global Summer School (GSS21), the 14th edition of the international summer educational program focussing on designing the future of our cities. Certain cities or parts of a city are lost in the layers of history and fade away from public memory. However, many of such long-forgotten urban conditions are important because within them they are a repository of certain collective culture and consciousness. In this writing workshop, we will write episodical histories of such cities while emphasising key ideas or practices that defined them. The aim would be to create a narrative which can be quickly shared in the public domain.
Palimpsest Barragan poses a once in a lifetime opportunity to engage eye to eye with an architectural masterpiece of 20th century modernism by the Mexican architect Luis Barragan. As a hidden and still unknown architectural jewel set amidst a paradisiac jungle on the Pacific coast, the ruins of the never completed building have sunk into oblivion, not unlike the ancient Mexican pyramids, and are currently in progressive decay. The workshop will not only ‘unearth’ the project and at last put it on the map of architectural discourse, but it might even have a larger impact by kickstarting a debate around the preservation of its ruins from disintegration.
