The Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design & Space, the world’s largest festival of performance design and theatre architecture. Established in 1967 to bring the best of design for performance, scenography, and theatre architecture to the front line of cultural activities to be experienced by professional and emerging artists as well as the general public, the quadrennial exhibitions, festivals, and educational programs act as a global catalyst of creative progress by encouraging experimentation, networking, innovation, and future collaborations. PQ aims to honor, empower and celebrate the work of designers, artists and architects while inspiring and educating audiences, who are the most essential element of any live performance. PQ was recognized after the 2015 edition by the EFFE Awards as one of the most trend-setting European festivals.

PQ2019 (6-16 June 2019) is now accepting proposals for the Our Theatre of the World Performance Space Architecture Exhibition. Curated by award-winning architect Andrew Todd, the format for this edition’s architecture exhibition seeks to be as democratic as possible, with the open call being made directly to artists and organizations instead of through the national curators, allowing an unrestrained number of entries from any given country or region. We seek projects about performing arts space great and small created over the last 6 years, including everything from ephemeral spaces created in remote locations for a single event to multi-million dollar performing arts centers. Submissions take the form of a 5 minute video presenting the space as well as a discussion of its use by both the architects/space makers and space users. The video should not be focused on a single performance, but on the creation and use of the space overall. The submitted videos will form an exhibition at the Industrial Palace during PQ2019, and a curated selection of top submissions will have their teams invited to PQ to share more about the project as part of PQ Talks.

The full call (including guidelines for submission) and application can be found on the PQ website: http://www.pq.cz/en/performance-space-architecture-exhibition
