The BSR is delighted to announce that the competition is now open for a Scholars' Prize in Architecture. This is an exciting and valuable opportunity for an early-career architect or post-Part II student of architecture to spend three months in Rome (January-March 2017), and be a member of a vibrant residential community of architects, artists and researchers in the humanities and social sciences.
The winner is provided with accommodation in a residential studio, board and a research grant of £700 per month. They are also expected to take an interest in the BSR' s active and vibrant programme of lectures, events and exhibitions; and in particular the BSR' s architecture program me, 'Meeting Architecture 111. Fragments'. The winner will pursue and complete a creative, intellectually coherent and focused architectural project, of their own choosing, based on the city of Rome or its environs.
Rome has a continuing importance as an international city which—from antiquity to the contemporary period—has generated distinctive architecture and challenging examples of urban design. The Scholars' Prize in Architecture has been made possible by donations from a number of former award-holders at the BSR. The impact of a residency at the BSR upon them and their careers was so strong that they wish others to be able to benefit from this remarkable possibility.
The closing date for applications is Monday 4 April 2016.
