Designed to seat 33,000 people, stadiumconcept and IAA architecten’s proposal for Minsk’s newest football stadium has a unique and allusive form. The column-like supports of the stadium roof resemble tractor valves, a reference to Minsk’s booming tractor fabrication industry. These tapering columns provide a signature identity for a building that, in addition to being a stadium, will serve the city as a shopping and business center.

In order to comply with height regulations, the stadium floor is embedded into the ground, with circular glazed skylights covering the stands. These skylights mimic the shape and clustered nature of the “valve” column capitals.  The stadium floor itself, in keeping with the multifunctional program of the building, can be used to host events such as concerts with little difficulty.

The stadium’s green roof plays a significant role in the function of the building. Located on the tops of the circular column capitals, the vegetated roof would help the stadium blend in with the surrounding parkland, as well as collecting rainwater. This would minimize runoff from the building site. In addition to the roof, the materials used in the construction of the stadium are all classified as sustainable.

As a hub for the city, the stadium will be in close proximity to both metro and bus stations, and will be accessible on foot from the city center.
