Text description provided by the architects. City cemetery Linz / St. Martin is the biggest municipal cemetery of Linz and often used as local recreation area due to its vastness and the generously designed open area. The challenge of this project was to create a contemporary place of burial with high design quality that may be used by differing religious communities.

Next to the newly organised entries for mourners and visitors, the redesign of the chapel of rest and the service zones lead to a unique sequence of courts and an improved routing. Positioned next to a highly frequented road, the simple forecourt with its modest beam defines the threshold to a calm and contemplative zone, to a place of silence; the visitor can take the time to attune while wandering through the birch grove. The significance of the place is underlined by using proven means of design like monumentality or by forming ranges of vision.
