Text description provided by the architects. The term tsuzukima (literally “continuous gap”) refers to a space overlaid with traditional Japanese tatami (straw) mats. By shutting the sliding doors, these spaces can be used as small rooms. When these same doors are opened, tsuzukima become part of a single, wide-open space. This particular residential project expands on this concept, evolving the tsuzukima in a new direction.
