House on the Flight of Birds / Bernardo Rodrigues The house is located in the north side of S. Michael Island in the Azores. Since the microclimate of this farmland offers frequent wind and showers, the first design strategy was to block these winds with a wall and offer diverse patios and covered courtyards to protect against rain. Placebo Pharmacy / KLab KLab Architecture shared their latest project, a Placebo pharmacy in Athens, with us. By wrapping the existing orthagonal footprint in a dynamic circular skin, KLab has created a sophisticated spiraling form which seeks to create a relationship with the rapid motion of Vouliagmenis Avenue, the urban artery on which the building stands (read more…)

Seven17 Bourke Street / Metier3 Architects Located on the original Batman Hill in Melbourne ‘s Docklands precinct Seven 17 Bourke Street houses a complex mixed-use programme including 36,000 sqm of commercial A-grade office space, the Travelodge 290 room Hotel, 16,000 sqm of retail and 436 carparks over four levels. Sitting on the eastern edge of the Docklands precinct the building creates both a visual and physical connection between the street level activities to the West with the elevated link between the CBD and the Docklands stadium to the East (read more…)

Palacio de Justica de Gouveia / Barbosa & Guimaraes Architects This project takes advantage of the demolition of the existing building, which occupied the whole of the plot, to design a new Plaza, with a scale and dignity to receive the Law Courts. 2011 Pritzker Prize Ceremony: Eduardo Souto de Moura, and Barack Obama Last night we had the honor of attending the 2011 Pritzker Prize Ceremony in Washington D.C., where Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto de Moura received this important recognition. This was the third time we attended the event (after 2009 in Buenos Aires and 2010 in New York) and it was a special evening, not only because of the renowned architects attending the event, but also for the presenting speech by President Barack Obama (read more…)
