Text description provided by the architects. In 2021, the Ōkinaki restaurant opened its first iteration, occupying a corner property that had housed a traditional local bar for years. “Ōkina ki” (“large tree” in Japanese), besides referencing one of the primary culinary inspirations of the restaurant, also pays homage to the massive ficus tree rooted on the sidewalk. Inspired by izakayas (traditional Japanese bars, equivalent to Brazilian botecos), the restaurant initially required a compact space, prioritizing the technical layout of the kitchen to meet the high demand for delivery during the pandemic.
