Archive of Received Ideas: Rafael Freyre

Archivo de Ideas Recibidas is an interdisciplinary research and dissemination project that seeks to document and connect the ideas of contributors to the contemporary creative ecosystem through art, design, and architecture. It is built on conversations between the team and various creators, delving into themes related to memory, academia, cultural context, key influences, and working methodologies.

They have previously shared an interview with architect Sandra Barclay of Barclay & Crousse, which presented several reflections on working in another country from a distance: "the possibility of looking at our country with different eyes."

This time, they introduce us to another Peruvian architect following a similar path, Rafael Freyre of Estudio RF / Arte y Arquitectura. Freyre studied architecture at Ricardo Palma University. Later, Freyre earned a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Plymouth in England and the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam, Netherlands, conducting research on migration and mobility that received a promotional award. Freyre worked as an architect and designer in Rotterdam, and later in Rome with Massimiliano Fuksas Architetto. This was followed by a brief period working in New York and Bali with theater director Robert Wilson. Today, Freyre serves as Creative Director at Estudio Rafael Freyre, leading a team of architects, designers, and artisans. Together, they develop diverse projects integrating architecture, design, and art.
