6 Endangered UNESCO Sites Virtually Restored

Despite UNESCO's recognition of specific World Heritage sites, many of them remain in constant danger of disappearing due to natural phenomena like earthquakes and human factors such as urbanization. By definition, these landmarks are vital to human history, possessing characteristics that reflect the deepest values of diverse civilizations. Nevertheless, much of the global population has never experienced them in person.

In response, Budget Direct launched a project to virtually reconstruct six UNESCO World Heritage sites that currently lie in ruins. The team decided to bring to life a series of cultural heritage sites that UNESCO has classified as "in danger"—ranging from the fortified city of Hatra in Iraq to the recently destroyed ruins of Palmyra in Syria—collaborating with architect Jelena Popovic during the research phase of the project.
