Universities are environments defined by the intrinsic relationship between teaching, research, and outreach. As multidisciplinary institutions responsible for cultivating and disseminating knowledge, the various facilities that make up a university not only translate (directly or indirectly) the principles of education, research, and outreach into physical space, but also serve as the stage for the multifaceted dynamics and activities that shape campus life.
As such, colleges, institutes, student housing, administration buildings, libraries, student centers, and other buildings connected to the campus are part of a broader network. Consequently, these facilities must often accommodate an extensive program that addresses the needs of the student body, faculty, and staff, treating them in a collective and integrated manner rather than in isolation.
