Winner of the annual Super Skyscrapers competition, Tommaso Bernabò Silorata’s “Skyframe” is a proposal for a skyscraper in Paris featuring a hotel, business areas and rooftop pool. Despite its status as one of the world’s fastest changing cities, Paris has severe restrictions on its skyline to preserve its existing landscape. Skyscrapers are discouraged in its urban core, an issue addressed in this year’s Super Skyscraper competition. The first place winner, Skyframe, creates a void between the two towers, framing the Parisian skyline, and creating an ethereal swimming experience for occupants on the roof-level pool.
The central void of the building serves two functions, aside from its permeability in Paris’ skyline. Its absent space provides a series of green terraces, offering opportunities for office workers and hotel-goers to relax and "interact visually" with others occupying the space. It also provides a “vertiginous diving experience” for users of the rooftop pool. The bottom of the pool is left completely transparent, allowing divers to look down at the absent space in the building, with the pool itself connecting the two halves.
The building program is separated into four main categories: the Lobby, containing a restaurant, a wine bar, auditorium and fitness zone; the Hotel, with various room types, common spaces and public terraces; the Business Incubator, with office spaces, meeting rooms and co-work facilities; and the Roof Pool, with an accompanying restaurant and lounge bar.
