Text description provided by the architects. The project claims to preserve the spirit of the place, to conserve the trees and to create a building in perpetual interaction with the elements of the park : the villa, the trees and the garden. The concrete made extension of the day nursery is developed on two floors, along the street «Lamartine» to the western limit of the property.

Ground Floor Plan

The ground floor of the building defines the reference level and allows a direct access to the park through the large multipurpose room. On the north side, where the main entrance to the day nursery is located, the volume is slightly in withdrawl compared to the villa and anchored itself to the ground.

The project generates two distinct outdoor areas; a public place on the north side related to Geisendorf park and to the private garden of the day nursery on the south side.

Towards the park, the extension façade aims to free the volume of the villa and in this way enhance it. In the south, the walls of the monolith take shape according to to the trajectory of the trees and defines the common spaces on the ground floor and the living spaces of the groups of children on the first floor.

First Floor Plan

The villa has been entirely renovated and the interior transformed in order to accomodate children from 0 to 2 years. The veranda and an entrance has been removed to bring back the original volumetry of the villa from the 19th century. The interior and external interventions have been carried out according to the building program and to technical  and energetic requirements.
