AMO Invites Dutch Architects to Discuss their Future at the Venice Biennale

On November 20-21, AMO is hosting a discussion event at the Venice Biennale focusing on the past, present and future of Dutch architecture in which 30 young architects will be invited to present their agenda for architecture in the Netherlands for the next 10 years. Over the course of the two days, each participant will present will deliver a 7-minute presentation looking at architecture in 2024 to answer the question "where will you be and will you be doing?" Find out more about the event, and how you can be a part of it, after the break.

The event is organized among what AMO sees as the decreasing fortunes for Dutch architecture in the past decade. AMO notes that in 2004, the country was in the "superdutch" era of architecture, a highly successful branding led by the government which brought the country international success. The government was also investing in museums, with a series of both new construction and renovation, and in transport, with a number of railway projects to fulfil the government's National Mobility Plan.

By contrast in 2014, most of these major projects are now completed with few to replace them. Employment and turnover among architecture firms is significantly lower, and student numbers are down. As the country comes out of the recession, will these trends continue in the next decade?

AMO is searching for 30 young Dutch architects who think they can help with the answer. You can apply by sending an email, before October 17, with an optional motivation statement, to venice2014@oma.com. Each participant will receive an honorarium of €350 for expenses.
