YAC Announces Winning Projects for Two Road Monuments Celebrating Lamborghini’s Legend

YAC - Young Architects Competitions – and Automobili Lamborghini have announced the winners of Lamborghini Road Monument, an international architectural competition launched last September in cooperation with the Region of Emilia-Romagna, the Municipalities of Bologna and Sant’Agata Bolognese, the School of Fine Arts of Bologna and Unindustria Bologna. The aim of the competition was to design two architectonic installations in order to emphasize the importance of Lamborghini’s sites in Sant’ Agata Bolognese, near Bologna (Italy).

The installations had to embody the values of a world-renowned brand, aiming at sculpting in matter the history of speed, power, and innovation.

Four distinguished architectural studios like Zaha Hadid Architects, Studio Fabio Novembre, Libeskind studio, Foster+Partners assessed the submitted projects with Francesco Dal Co, Director of Casabella magazine, Giuseppe Cappochin, President of the Italian National Association of Architects, Annalisa Trentin from the University of Bologna and Stefano Domenicali, Chief Executive Office of Automobili Lamborghini.

The jury noticed a high-quality standard of designs and Automobili Lamborghini decided to award two projects the 1st Prize, rewarding ACQ studio and ZERONOVE ARCHITECTURE teams with a cash prize of € 12,000 each and with the construction of their installations.

A stone’s throw from charming Venice, is the island of Poveglia, a peaceful uninhabited land skimmed by the languishing waters of Venetian Lagoon. Once commercial crossroads and cultural melting pot, since 14th century Poveglia has gradually been abandoned by its inhabitants hosting first a leper hospital and then a geriatric hospital. Today, only a thick vegetation and some ruins live on the island featuring as a perfect setting for the grimmest tales and fantastic rumors.

Almost consigned to oblivion, Poveglia may arise from its ashes becoming a focal point in cultural international life. YAC has launched an architectural competition aiming at urban renewal of this island by transforming it into an excellent university campus. The idea is to create a multi-function facility for sevecral suggestive academic, leisure, sport and cultural activities open to students, citizens and tourists gathering in Venice and its surroundings.

Open Call: Transform an Abandoned Lighthouse into a Tourist Facility

Young Architects Competitions (YAC) has launched their latest competition, asking international designers to imagine a new future for an abandoned Italian lighthouse by transforming it into a tourism facility. There is 15.000€ cash prizes for the winning proposals, and awarded proposals will be published on architectural magazines /websites / will be internationally exhibited.

Call for Ideas: Food & Wellness Club

(YAC) is launching an open architectural competition to design a Food & Wellness Club for the upcoming F.I.CO.® (Fabbrica Italiana Contadina) theme park in Bologna. In 2016, F.I.CO. will become the world’s biggest theme park dedicated to food farming and food culture, with nine million tourists expected to visit this structure each year. Such a project will trigger a redevelopment of the surrounding area in order to provide visitors with services. The Food & Wellness Club aims to offer a wellness area for those visitors willing to discover both nutrition and body care, offering comfort and care in a multi-sensory and exclusive space. The question of the competition becomes: how to create an architectural space that combines the elements of food, relaxation, wellness and seasonality?

In partnership with La Sapienza University, Progetto Forti and Rome municipality, Young Architects Competitions (YAC) is launching a competition to redesign one of the treasures of Rome: Forte Portuense.

"Post-Quake Visions" Young Architects Competition Results Announced

The results for the latest Young Architects Competition (YAC), Post-Quake Visions, have been announced. The competition aimed to discover innovative ways to overcome the effects of a seismic catastrophe over a medieval Mediterranean town. Participants were encouraged to rethink and redesign the quake-inflicted gaps left inside ancient urban tissues. Call for Ideas: Space to Culture

The progressive digitalization of social and economical relationships is transforming lots of huge factories into useless empty boxes waiting for re-functionalization and new purpose. Nute Partecipazioni ltd deals with revamping and enhancing valuable but disused industrial buildings. Such firm owns a disused factory in Quarto Inferiore (Granarolo, Bologna). Nute’s CEO is currently aiming to transform the disused 15.000 m2 industrial park into a space for leisure time, culture and arts.

What kind of architecture could be proposed in order to host cultural and entertainment activities?

This is a chance to rethink a disused industrial place and transform it in a lively space for culture, art and public relationships. Wide and versatile open spaces are meant to provide local citizens and tourists a modern cultural / leisure time activities centre.

This call focuses on temporality and spatial custom-tailoring. Nowadays modern technology is capable of boosting communication and information. This feature shall lead designers to propose flexible system made of dynamic / modular / equipped spaces. More information after the break.
