The International Collaboration office at the Faculty of Engineering Ain Shams University is pleased to announce its 1st International Architectural Design Competition.

The purpose of the Competition is to select the best Investment design located in the vicinity of the Birthplace of Fryderyk Chopin and Park in Żelazowa Wola. The conceptual architectural design must take into account the spatial relationship with the Birthplace of Fryderyk Chopin, which is the focal point of the historic park surrounding it, in particular it must harmonize with the function of the site, i.e. the Park-Memorial created in the 20’s and 30’s of the 20th century to commemorate the great artist.

Population growth, increasing urbanisation and social change pose new challenges for architecture and urban planning. Reflecting these processes of change, Superscape opens a creative space for unconventional ideas meant to deliver new impulses to real-life architectural output and urban development. The biannual prize seeks to encourage innovative and visionary architectural concepts exploring new models of living and strategies for inhabiting an urban context over a broad expanse of 30 years.

Following its official opening on October 5, 2016, the new MAAT building reopened to the public on March 22, 2017, with two major exhibitions that take up the whole building: Utopia/Dystopia – A Paradigm Shift, curated by Pedro Gadanho, João Laia and Susana Ventura – and Order and Progress by Mexican artist Héctor Zamora, curated by Inês Grosso.
