The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) is pleased to announce its 5th International Student Tall Building Design Competition. The goal of the competition is to shed new light on the meaning and value of tall buildings in modern society.
As worldwide populations continue to urbanize and grow, creating megacities, the role of the tall building in the twenty-first century has moved beyond simply addressing spatial and economic efficiencies. The permanence of these structures necessitates careful forethought into how they will interface with the surrounding urban context, the natural environment, their inhabitants, and the world as a whole. Although they are statically embedded in our cities, skyscrapers must employ a dynamic spatial and functional dialogue, allowing them to remain active and relevant for not just decades, but centuries.
Location: The Xuanxi North project is located in central Beijing, within the second ring-road. It lies on the west side of Xuanwumenwai Avenue, about 2.2km in a direct line from Tiananmen Square and 3.6km from The Temple of Heaven, and has a surface area of about 13hectares. The KOMA Modular company has opened the eighth year of the popular student competition. This year's topic is a design of a multipurpose South Bohemian Philharmonic Orchestra building with a variable hall that should be able to accommodate an audience of up to 1,000 people in combination with an open scene for outdoor concerts with all the necessary amenities for the artists as well as for the audience.
The AIA has kicked off National Architecture week, which will run from April 10-April 16. The week aims to "elevate the public's appreciation of design," while also recognizing those architects who have impacted local communities through design and collaboration. In support of the celebration, the AIA will reveal the winners of the AIA/ALA Library Building Awards on April 12.
The theatre was built in 1966-67. Now it is an abandoned municipal building. The theatre needs to be reconstructed/rebuilt taking into account current needs of the Cherkasy community. In summer 2015 our local volunteers team voiced the intention for revitalising Sylvan theatre and started a fundraising campaign. Thanks to the city community we have accumulated funds which will be the prize for this competition winner. We also polled participants of the fundraising campaign to discover their preferences for ways of the money application and for the concept of the future theatre. So Cherkasy citizens vote for the architecture projects competition. Requirements for projects are also based on the poll results.

MCASB invites proposals for a large-scale, outdoor, traveling pavilion to be built and installed at each site of its new public art program, TakePart/MakeArt. As a central feature of TakePart/MakeArt, the mobile pavilion will be a bold and vibrant beacon for MCASB as it travels through three different communities across Santa Barbara County: Isla Vista, the Westside, and the Waterfront.
A “Pavilion” is a space defined specifically for a non-specific purpose. The specificity is the location and non-specificity is its use. A “Pavilion” is also a prototype of tech-crafted tradition and represents a geo-cultural transformation throughout all cultures.
NAPAVILION challenges this typical ideal of a Pavilion by providing specificity in use and non-specificity or adaptability in site. NAPAVILION is a Pavilion for a nap in any location you choose. This can be within your home, backyard, on a tree, by a tree, on top of a hill, at the foot of a hill, by a river, or floating on a river.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has selected four projects for its Upjohn Research Initiative, a joint program of the College of Fellows and the Board Knowledge Committee to support knowledge sharing between practitioners and academicians. "The purpose of this grant, now in its ninth year, is to provide base funds for applied research projects that advance professional knowledge and practice," says the AIA. "The 18-month long project grant qualifies recipients to have their findings and outcomes published both electronically and in a nationally distributed publication."
