The School of Architecture at the Campus Creativo of the Universidad Andrés Bello is launching an open call for the second edition of the Remote Residencies. This project aims to foster openness and interdisciplinary experimentation regarding contemporary and relevant themes, posing questions that challenge the status quo and creating spaces for research and free creation.
These gatherings are FeNEA's largest and most well-known projects. The EREA (Regional Meeting of Architecture and Urbanism Students) is a deliberative body of FeNEA (National Federation of Architecture and Urbanism Students of Brazil) that takes place annually across the country's regions in different host cities. Now in its 12th edition, the Northeast Regional meeting brings together hundreds of students from all nine states for a week of theoretical and practical activities, including roundtables, project presentations, immersive experiences, workshops, collaborative work sessions, and cultural events. The primary objective is to facilitate the exchange of practical experiences and knowledge gained across different educational institutions, fostering deep integration among participants.
The Visiting School in Colima, Mexico poses a once in a lifetime opportunity to engage with an architectural masterpiece of 20th century modernism by the Mexican architect Luis Barragán. As a hidden and still unknown architectural jewel set amidst a paradisiac jungle on the Pacific coast, the ruins of the never completed building have sunk into oblivion, not unlike the ancient Mexican pyramids, and are currently in progressive decay. The workshop will not only ‘unearth’ the project and at last put it on the map of architectural discourse, but it might even have a larger impact by kickstarting a debate around the preservation of its ruins from disintegration.
‘Palimpsest Barragán’ offers a unique opportunity to engage closely with a 20th-century modernist architectural masterpiece by Luis Barragán. As a hidden and yet-to-be-recognized gem located in the middle of a paradisiacal jungle on the Pacific coast, the ruins of the unfinished building have faded into obscurity, much like pre-Hispanic pyramids in Mexico. Architectural production is inherently linked to time, whether through the intent to endure or through a planned duration. However, the permanence of buildings is limited: elements wear out, are repaired, and are transformed, while users change their activities, integrate unexpected uses, and adapt spaces to their evolving needs. Similarly, projects with a set duration can extend their utility, travel to new spaces with updated programs, and generate new transactions. Even more paradigmatically, projects and construction are often carried out according to the rhythms of the community rather than a fixed schedule.
Europan 17 invites interdisciplinary teams of architects, urbanists and landscapers under the age of 40 with a European diploma - and students in master in the same fields - to develop new concepts on Living Cities through its bi-annual competition.
