The Latin American Integration Workshop (TiL), established in 2009 by the Faculty of Architecture, Design, Art, and Urbanism at the University of Morón with the support of over one hundred architecture schools in Latin America and partners in Spain, Italy, and Portugal, has opened the call for entries for the sixth edition of the TiL Competition, aimed at architecture and design students from around the world.

Advancing Computational Building Design enables forward-thinking architects and engineers to accelerate their adoption of generative, digital design tools across their projects. You’ll hear how your peers are leveraging computation and iterative design processes to inform decision making and provide the power to clients to better visualize their future asset and drive collaborative relationships with designers.

The 6th edition of the International Congress on Architecture and Society, titled "La Ciudad que queremos, The city we want," will be held at the Baluarte venue in Pamplona from June 10 to 12, 2020.

We are pleased to announce the launch of an annual international design competition: Low-cost House Design Competition. The competition is designed to challenge and seek creativity with ideas and concepts in architectural design, as well as landscape design or site planning. This competition aims to promote alternative solutions to housing, coming up with affordable and sustainable units with limited size and budget to the urgent demands for a house of urban poor.

The New Sense of Place: Education, Profession and Social Interaction

The Mohamed Makiya Prize is part of Tamayouz Excellence Award's programme that champions and celebrates the best of architecture in the Middle East and North Africa. Every cycle, the prize is presented to the 'Architectural Personality of the Year', or the individual/organisation that has made the greatest contribution towards the advancement of architecture in a specific period. The winner will be celebrated during the annual Tamayouz Excellence Award Ceremony.

The new sense of place in education, the profession, and social interaction will be the theme of the 18th International Conference Arquitectonics: Mind, Land, and Society in Barcelona. This event is organized by the UPC Research Group (GIRAS), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), and the Mind, Land & Society Arquitectonics Network.

Privatisation of public land is a growing phenomenon in cities such as London. More and more communal spaces are being sold to public bodies or developers, resulting in them becoming the primary makers of modern cities. This transformation has been giving rise to privately owned public spaces (POPS), a term to describe spaces open to the public, formed from deals between the city and the developer in return for zoning concessions. The areas around King’s Cross current development is one of the 50 POPSs in Central London.

Coffee plants grew wild in Ethiopia and were used by nomadic tribes for thousands of years, only until the 1400s when people figured out that they could roast its seeds. By the 1500s, the drink had spread to coffee houses across the Arab world. Coffee houses first appeared in Turkey, Syria, and Egypt as early as 1530. Since they became a hotspot for political discussions, they were banned repeatedly.

The Monte d’Oiro Wine Tasting Room competition is part of the Bee Breeders competition series set in Portugal and is a collaboration with Quinta Do Monte D’Oiro, a family wine project located in the Lisbon Wine Region.

Kurgi farm is located in the North Latvia Biosphere Reserve, one of the most beautiful and scenic locations in Northern Europe and listed as a nature conservation area of international importance by UNESCO. Kurgi farm is owned by a young couple, Kristaps and Laura, who were mesmerised by the natural beauty of the area. So much so that they decided to live there permanently.

The Al Wathba Wetland Reserve in the UAE capital of Abu Dhabi is home to a vibrance of wildlife, the most famous of which are its flamingo population. The magnificent waves of pink flock to the reserve every autumn to spend the cooler winter months residing in the wetlands until spring, as many as 4,000 at a time.

Home of Silicon Valley, San Francisco has become the go-to city for tech companies within the US, and with countless tech employees flocking to the area with sizeable paychecks, it’s not hard to see why the prices in the Bay Area have skyrocketed in the previous decades.

The SKYHIVE 2020 Skyscraper Challenge is the third annual architecture competition which searches out the latest and greatest designs for an iconic high rise structure. Participants of the SKYHIVE Challenge are tasked with creating a concept for a state-of-the-art tower that breaks from the norm.

Western Exhibitions is thrilled to present its third solo show with Marshall Brown, Je est un autre, in Galleries 1 and 2. Featuring two new projects, Brown uses the historically disruptive properties of collage and montage to create new spaces, forms, and narratives that embody new relationships between the one and the many. Je est un autre translates roughly to “I is another,” a phrase borrowed from French poet Arthur Rimbaud, and speaks to Brown’s rejection of purist or reductionist worldviews through his hybrid works. The exhibition opens on June 7th with a free and public reception from 5 to 8pm and runs through July 27th.

Cultivating the symbolism and tradition of Ikebana—the art of bringing flowers to life through arrangements—the ground floor of Japan House São Paulo takes on new colors and forms with the arrival of the exhibition 'DŌ – The Path to Serenity,' running from June 29 to August 4. Held in partnership with the Ikebana Association of Brazil, the exhibition features special works, a permanent installation, and a parallel program that depict and unveil the details of this philosophy, also known as Kado—literally 'ka' (flowers) and 'do' (path).
