The ARCASIA Travel Prize in Architecture is the travel and research scholarship given annually to Young Architects of ARCASIA (40 years and under) and member of the institute of their country. The emphasis of the traveling scholarship is not only to promote research in the selected fields of study, but also to encourage cross border education as well as to foster cultural exchange between nations and institutes. Sponsored by NS Bluescope (Thailand), this year is the second year of the ARCASIA Travel Prize. For 2016, the ARCASIA Travel Prize aims to enable Young Architects to travel and to conduct design research in Thailand on the topic of humanitarian architecture.

Collettivo Migrante has launched a call for projects for the design of a temporary installation: a 'treasure room' for Pennabilli, an ancient hamlet in the Romagna Appennines (Italy). The installation will be active during the International Street Art Festival "Artisti in Piazza" (1-5 June 2016). The device will be used as a camera obscura during the day and as performance space during the night.

Time Inc, NBBJ, and PowerToFly have partnered to host a global hackathon in Seattle, New York, and London. Teams will compete to invent the future of the distributed workplace; building products to encourage collaboration, connection, and culture flow. Prizes will include in-kind tech donation and an installation of the winning work.

Seoul Metropolitan City is holding ‘Young Architects’ Competition 2016: Parking Lot Cultural Space Creation’ to provide design participation chance for domestic and international young architects to promote architecture service industry and discover and nurture outstanding designers. In order to extend participation of rising architects, only architects under the age of 45 (who was born after Jan 1, 1971) can enter this design competition.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has launched an “International Design + Deliverability Competition” for the construction of a 21st century successor to the United States’ largest and busiest bus terminal.

From 4/1/2016 through 5/31/2016, up-and-coming Landscape Architects can compete for the opportunity to visit New Orleans and attend the 2016 ASLA (American Society of Landscape Architects) Meeting & Expo. In the documentary Jens Jensen The Living Green, filmmaker Carey Lundin explores the innovative ideas of Jens Jensen to make the modern city livable for all. The prestigious IIA National Awards for Excellence in Architecture 2015 will be held in Calicut from April 7-9, 2016, along with CROSSROADS 2016, hosted by the IIA Calicut Centre, powered by Trojan Plywood. The 3 day event to be held at Kadavu Resort, Calicut will see the attendance of over 1,000 delegates comprising Architects & Urban Planners from across the country.

BSA Space, Boston’s only center for architecture and design, seeks curatorial proposals for its 2018—2019 exhibition season. The deadline to submit is Friday, April 15, 2016.

Discover the work of landscape architecture firm Oehme, van Sweden & Associates in the exhibition The New American Garden, visit a nearby site designed by the firm, and create a photographic artwork of your own.

Alan Ward, FASLA, masterfully uses the photographic process to see and interpret the essence of designed landscapes. In this program, he describes his process for capturing space, texture, bright light, and dappled shade in mostly black-and-white images, challenging us to see landscapes with new eyes. Re-Ball! is an open design competition to turn 650,000 3-inch, white, translucent plastic balls into a site-specific installation in the Dupont Underground’s 14,000-square-foot east platform. The balls were previously part of the National Building Museum’s blockbuster summer destination The BEACH. The City of Central Falls seeks Design Professionals looking to develop their portfolios with small-scale projects focused on façade improvement on Dexter Street that will bring high-quality, top-notch design to the city. This project is part of a concerted effort to create a more vibrant and integrated urban environment on our main streets. Significant investment is being done to improve the streets and sidewalks and the City wishes to expand upon this work by implementing a façade improvement program. Dexter Street is an excellent example of a vibrant urban “Main Street,” with many successful businesses and delicious restaurants. The City believes that these façade improvements will have the opportunity to take the street “over the top” and pave the path toward a successful attraction for neighboring communities and tourists, in addition to improving the experience for residents.

01. OVERVIEW

BEE / HOUSE / LAB, is an international design competition open to students and designers in the field of environmental design, architecture, landscape architecture, industrial design, and other related fields. The competition calls for a design of a bee house prototype that can be fabricated and deployed for field testing. Up to ten designs selected by the Design Jury will be fabricated (30 prototypes per design) and deployed (300 houses), to study their space-form-habitat performances.
The competition is hosted by the Office of Sustainability, and supported by the FABLAB at the Faculty of Architecture, the Department of Entomology and Parks Canada campus club, at the University of Manitoba. The University of Manitoba is committed to sustainable development and to using campus as a living lab. The university campus will be the primary deployment ground for the prototypes, and the results and the process of the competition will be published on various forms of media for the ongoing BEE LAB research and for the public awareness campaign purposes.
