This session is titled: “Circular Futures: Digital Design and Additive Manufacturing for a Circular Economy,” featuring a lecture by Felix Raspall and a dialogue with Maria Foulquié.
On March 15, 2023, at 7:00 PM, Anita Schwartz Galeria de Arte will open the exhibition "Tempo-Matéria" (Time-Matter), featuring approximately 14 new, previously unseen paintings by Rio de Janeiro-based artist Dudu Garcia. The works belong to the 2023 "RA 143" series, a title that references the address of the artist's studio on Avenida Rodrigues Alves, in Rio de Janeiro's port district.
In the design exhibition area, new pieces designed by Superlimão for Amazônia Móveis will be on display. These include four examples of the Cadeira n.6, part of an outdoor furniture collection created by the firm that features durable, lightweight, and versatile pieces.
This year's DW! will feature the launch of the Satélite lamp, created by Superlimão for Luxion Iluminação. Inspired by space exploration devices, the design blends the essential with the unexpected, pairing indirect lighting—which adds comfort to any environment—with an articulated body that allows for endless lighting configurations.
BOOMSPDESIGN, an event part of DW!, will take place at one of the city's most iconic landmarks: the Copan Building. On March 13, Thiago Rodrigues, partner and architect at Superlimão, will participate in a thematic panel to discuss the relevance and challenges of retrofit projects. Joining Thiago in the discussion are Beto Cocenza (creator of BOOMSPDESIGN) and Maxime Barkatz, founder of Ilion Partners, a real estate investment fund focused on building revitalization.
Participants are crucial to the success of the MEDS Workshop, bringing diverse strengths and knowledge from their study and work experiences. They come from various countries and are united by their passion for creation and eagerness to learn. Participants choose a project to work on, contributing to its development and completion. During the two-week workshop, each team, guided by their tutor, constructs the design, documents their work, and fosters a strong and fun team spirit. Alongside the project work, various entertaining events and activities are organized by the hosting team.
New Horizons: Through Darkness comes Light showcases the the Perth-based émigré Iwan Iwanoff alongside a collective chorus of artists, designers, architects and creatives of European origin and education who practiced in Melbourne. Explore a wealth of exhibition materials including archival drawings, interviews, print media, 3D models and film that demonstrate how these practitioners explored new horizons and created prolific legacies.
Join The University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture for a lecture with renowned artist and MacArthur Fellow Jorge Pardo, whose work explores the intersection of contemporary painting, design, sculpture, and architecture. The lecture will be followed by an on-stage conversation with Program Director for Interior Design, Igor Siddiqui. Free and open to the public.

Nara Roesler Rio de Janeiro is pleased to open its 2023 season with the exhibition "Córte," by the celebrated artist Lucia Koch, starting March 16, 2023. The exhibition will feature unpublished works from the "Fundos" series, one of the most iconic in her production, in which she photographs the interiors of empty packaging used to store various products. Romano Guerra Editora and Galeria Gomide&Co are launching the book Três casas: estratégias de projeto (Three Houses: Design Strategies). The publication explores the design methodologies of three contemporary architecture firms—Pezo von Ellrichshausen, Ryue Nishizawa, and Aires Mateus—to understand each architect's modus operandi through experimental houses: the Poli House (Coliumo Peninsula, Chile, 2005), the Moriyama House (Tokyo, Japan, 2005), and the House in Coruche (Portugal, 2007). These projects point toward an expansion of the architectural lexicon that transcends classical movements—such as modernism and postmodernism—by introducing new aspects: spatial neutrality, ambivalence in the design of boundaries, and the tensioning of abstract forms.

Svetlana Kana Radević’s architecture is a radical act of mediation. Rising to prominence in post-war Yugoslavia, her buildings speak on all scales, engaging geo-political and social complexities. Drawing from knowledge of materiality and vernacular traditions within her native Montenegro (formerly Yugoslavia), her work filters modernism’s globalized forces through an intimate, place-based lens. Radević’s civic spaces re-centered provincial knowledge and facilitated a socially-progressive public sphere within the Yugoslav socialist state.
