Applications open for the AA Visiting School São Paulo 2021

The "AA Visiting School São Paulo 2021 – Play Structures" will be the first part of a two-workshop series led by architect and professor Kristof Crolla, held in a hybrid virtual-in-person format. This first workshop aims to explore the combination of bamboo construction and digital technologies, building on digital design research used to implement bending-active bamboo shell structures. The course will build upon previous work conducted by the Building Simplexity Lab at the University of Hong Kong, aiming to combine digital architectural exploration with real-time physical simulation software. The goal is to generate physical prototypes of these lightweight, low-tech construction systems within the Brazilian context, with the support of the digital design experts and the team at SUBdV.

Ministry of Cultures and the Chilean Association of Architects launch a call for ideas for the 22nd Chile Architecture and Urbanism Biennial 2022

The Undersecretariat of Cultures and the Arts of the Ministry of Cultures, through its Architecture Department, and the Association of Architects of Chile (Colegio de Arquitectos de Chile) announce the opening of the ideas competition for the XXII Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism of Chile 2022. The competition is open to Chilean architects and foreign architects holding an identity card issued by the Chilean Civil Registry and Identification Service, who are over 18 years of age and possess experience in curatorial, editorial, research, or exhibition projects.

"Public Works" Lecture

With a career focused primarily on the public sector, Cristóbal Tirado is the architect behind major projects throughout Chile, such as the renovation of the Mercado Providencia, the Aysén Regional Museum, the International Antarctic Center, the restoration of the Valparaíso elevators, and the remodeling of Plaza Sotomayor in the same city, among others. These are projects in which he has participated through competitions or public tenders.

Mucho Cuento Story Presentation. Al Borde

David Barragán, Esteban Benavides, Marialuisa Borja, and Pascual Gangotena, the four members of Al Borde, will discuss Él, Arena en el calzoncillo, La señora Cisne, and Una parte del cuento—the stories published in the book Mucho cuento—under the overarching title: "De cuando no hablé con nadie."

LIGA 42: Plinth for Anything, Gru.a (Brazil)

Gru.a is an architecture office based in Rio de Janeiro, founded in 2013 by Caio Calafate and Pedro Varella. Their practice sits at the intersection of architecture and art, exploring how spaces, structures, and material gestures can acquire new readings beyond their function. Their architectural work, art installations, and exhibition designs are assertive assemblages where the tectonic and the conceptual find a precise balance.

Launch Webinar for the Diploma in Additive Design and Construction at the University of Bío-Bío. Tishman Speyer Pavilion features works by Tomie Ohtake, Artur Lescher, and Amélia Toledo

The Tishman Speyer Pavilion was conceived to engage with the urban space—facilitating experiences, the exchange of ideas, and connections—while simultaneously serving as a refuge from the bustle of modern life. Open to the public free of charge, the space brings together works by renowned artists such as Artur Lescher, Tomie Ohtake, and Amélia Toledo.
The Pavilion is a work of art that provides experiences and connects the neighborhood to the future. The architectural design was developed by Atelier Peclat and consists of sandblasted glass block walls, reviving an element of 1960s architecture. This structure lends an intangible quality to the space, with its transparencies and opacities, creating a sense of mystery through the interplay of light and shadow formed between the interior and exterior areas.

Built memory: digital preservation and sharing of architectural archives

We are in the final stage of the project "Built Memory: cataloging and digitization of collections at the Ingo Hering Memory Center"—a project sponsored by the Santa Catarina Foundation of Culture through the 2019 Elisabete Anderle Call for Cultural Stimulation, which enabled the processing, storage, and digital sharing of part of architect Hans Broos's collection.
