Last quarter, Tesla delivered 95,000 electric cars to customers from around the world. Needless to say, the electric car revolution is coming at a rapid pace as people around the world choose to buy an electric vehicle instead of a gas car.

The question then becomes, what will happen to all the gas stations? There are over 130,000 gas stations in the US alone and many are family-run small businesses who don't have endless resources to prepare for the coming tectonic shift.

Madanfo Project and Radefoundation announce a call for entries for the "Timeabu Kindergarten" Architecture Competition. The competition aims to create a place where the youngest children of Timeabu can take classes.

On the occasion of the 100 Years of (Greater) Berlin anniversary, Berlin 2020 gGmbH, an organization of the Architekten- und Ingenieur-Verein zu Berlin e.V. (AIV), is launching an open-call initiative for an international urban design ideas competition. Berlin-Brandenburg 2070 aims to spur a broad social debate on the future of the Berlin-Brandenburg region. The competition asks architects, urban planners and landscape architects to respond to the interdisciplinary challenges facing the region in the future. The competition is focused on urban development issues common to both the city of Berlin and the state of Brandenburg. So that the design proposals fully take into account the challenges associated with sustainable metropolitan growth, the design ideas competition seeks to promote cooperation between the various experts and their fields. The international jury comprises the following members: Brigitte Bundesen Svarre, B.V. Prof. Ir. J.M.J. Jo Coenen Beheer, Prof. Werner Durth, Prof. Hans Kollhoff, Prof. Arno Lederer, Prof. Cornelia Müller, Reiner Nagel, Prof. Dr. med. Oliver Schwedes, Prof. Miroslav Sik. The patron of the project is the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Michael Müller. The deadline to register for the competition is 27 September 2019.

ABC | MONZA 2019 is an international architectural ideas competition in the time of Digital Transformation.
The theme of the competition is the urban regeneration of an industrial site of approximately 60,000 square meters in the city of Monza - Italy in accordance with the values of environmental, economic and social sustainability.
One of the characterizing elements of this competition is the use of BIM (Building Information Modeling) for the ideation, design and submission of the proposal.

PREMISE

With the growing population, land is constantly seen as a depleting resource and thus has increased real estate prices. Today, the definition of a house has barely boiled down to it being a commodity that constitutes a kitchen, a living area, bedroom and bathroom. This commodity offered is sometimes so inhabitable that it even lacks the basic notion of light and ventilation. Eventually, all the other additional notions of what a house should offer then become secondary. How do we then redefine a modern living space for a space crunch situation that it is not just habitable, but also restores these essential notions that make it a house?

Berlin as we know it – with its centres, residential quarters, and suburbs – marks its 100th anniversary in 2020. A reason to celebrate, but also a spur to think about the future development of the region. After years of stagnation, dynamism is returning to the Berlin-Brandenburg region: population growth, new flows of commuters and goods, new quarters and housing developments, a new rail map, a radically new airport arrangement, and a growing public transport system. Berlin is a metropolis, its integrated hinterland extending far beyond its administrative boundaries. What we need now is a broad public debate ranging from sustainable planning of growth across the region as a whole to the specific role of individual neighbourhoods within the growing metropolis. Both politicians and representatives of business and civil society have repeatedly called for such a debate, and with good reason.

“eSports have joined the big leagues”, a research from Goldman Sachs wrote in a recent report about the new subsection of the video game industry. They estimate that the monthly size of competitive eSports gamers, 167 million as of year-end 2018, will hit 276 million by 2022, basing their forecast on a New Zoo survey. Out of 7700 million world population estimated 2400 million people are playing some form of games in digital media as per a report by Statista.

Buildings are often designed aspiring for their long lives. With our modern-day construction materials, the average lifespan of a building can be considered as 40-50 years. However, what happens when a building dies and what if it becomes defunct before that?

Buildings when clubbed together form a locality which in turn add up to build a city. Proper functioning of any such building becomes an asset to a city. Contrarily, a defunct building is eventually a liability to a city.

Technological boost embarks our lifestyle enhancement. With this change, if a building cannot cater to the changing need of the society, it gets abandoned even before its physical death.

2019 Busan Architecture & Urban Media Competition

1. Theme: Memory & Oblivion (A matter concerning the method of existence)
Philip Johnson once said, "Some civilizations are remembered only by their architecture," while Aldo Rossi stated that, "Memory is the consciousness of the city. The city itself is the collective memory of its people, and like memory, it is associated with objects and places. The city is the locus of collective memory." Such a belief indicates that architecture can be a means of forming the identity of the city itself by creating places and memories for humans. Modern people endure living in an era of chaos as they have lost their memories which conflicted with the remaining images of the memory of the city and the prevalent destruction of the environment. In this regard, this media exhibition aims to present the time/space of memory and oblivion, which modern people now have to accept as their destiny.

BACKGROUND

The debate is whether Macau can continue to be a liveable city with such deficit and lack in social spaces.
The competition challenges designers to bring back these spaces that once belonged to the locals, to create new social spaces and recover the lost connection between the city and its people.
We seek proposals and designs of an alternative form of social and entertainment architecture that diverges from the existing gambling culture.

The story of birth and demise began to weave when humans started reading the stars and celestial bodies. Socio-cultural phenomena and language paved the path for religion and beliefs. Each religion had a new chronicle associated, that tapped our emotions. Infrastructures and spaces to perform these rituals were built, and held positions of great sanctity and significance in the society. Tombs, Pyramids, temples, all kinds of structures were constructed, and often formed the heart of a city or civilization.

50 years ago, on July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first man to step on the moon. Upon landing, the first words that he quoted were “That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” True to his words, the world has never seen back since and new dimensions of space explorations were open following that day. Every space mission has always inspired humanity to think beyond and, this marvelous feat has been the pinnacle of those.

Since the beginning of time, a HOME has continued to be an entity that is intimate to all living beings on the planet. Apart from being a physical shelter for humans and their daily lives, a home forms a distinct, intimate connection with its users.

Today, across the globe, we are experiencing a rise in densely populated urban areas, along with a lack of land resources to provide sufficient housing for the masses. This phenomenon has given rise to a new movement of Micro-Housing; one that commands the idea of simple but inventive living in today’s urban areas.

PREMISE

The world that we see today is closer than ever before. Knowledge which was earlier stored via books has now been transferred to the digital medium. It is accessible to the world, making the process of acquiring this knowledge i.e. learning, simpler. An avenue to self-educate and learn was initiated by need of a public space that made knowledge accessible to all with books. The concept of libraries initiated with this idea, by making learning accessible to all. It banked on the idea of gathering a wide spectrum of knowledge in one space, open to enable self-learning.

LIVING IN THE CITY
The Ministry of Housing Land Planning and Environment through the Directorate of Housing (DINAVI) and the Faculty of Architecture, Design, and Urbanism (FADU) through the Housing Committee come together to organize a competition of proposals open to students, teachers, and professionals in general. The entries should develop project-ideas conceived as alternatives and innovations to the current ways of management, design, and construction of urban housing in Uruguay.

PREMISE

Humankind has lived and worked primarily in rural areas. But now, more than half of the globe's population, will be living in towns and cities. The number of urban dwellers is rising, reaching almost 32% of total world population, and 68% by 2050. It is estimated that 900 million urban dwellers and over one billion rural people now live in overcrowded and poor quality housing without adequate provision for water, sanitation, drainage or the collection of household waste.
Even renting affordable houses in the world's largest cities is impossible and people have to resort to long commute hours to reach their workplace. A remedy for such conditions is required on a large scale that tackles with the issue of housing for low income groups residing in urban areas.
A possible long-term solution would be to design compact housing units that are affordable for construction as well as usage. Compact Housing can also be referred to as micro or capsule housing. This concept has been derived from the necessity of providing a shelter along with basic facilities for its users. It is a small, self-contained, single or double occupancy unit, typically in urban crowded areas.

The Bauhaus aimed to reunite fine art and functional design (applied arts), creating practical objects with the soul of design. Eco-Shore 2019

The Union of Moscow architects invites you to participate in the Russian competition with international participation which designed to develop the architectural concept of an eco-regeneration of the Sutoloka river.

The competition will be held in the framework of the 9th international festival Eco-Shore 2019. All submitted projects will be exhibited from 22 to 24 August 2019 in Ufa`s art-space Art-KVADRAT.

The major tasks that should be solved by the participants of the competition are the creation of a comfortable coastal zone, equally attractive for walking and for the placement of river infrastructure, the development of a new urban center of gravity, organically inscribed in the existing environment.

YAC - Young Architects Competitions launches “Sport Citadel”, a competition of ideas aiming to design a sport citadel near Turin, in one of the largest sport districts in Europe.
