The modern design of a protected life, assuming a passive body constructed individually in the disease-health opposition, focuses on the elimination of disease through the use of the hospital as a fundamental device for biomedical knowledge and intervention. However, health is permanently reinvented through its social, ecological, and political dimensions, and the medicalization of life centered on the individual is expanding into spaces composed of less static and more complex visions, problematized by (re)emerging challenges such as the recent Covid-19 pandemic.

This approach reflects an architecture aimed at a sustainable future, promoting the densification of urban cores and the recovery of existing structures through remodeling, reuse, expansion, or renovation. In this context, we are pleased to announce our collaboration with ICEX. Together, we seek to highlight and recognize the innovative work of Spanish architects, whose proposals inspire new and better practices in urban remodeling.

[in]VISIBLE CITIES Competition: a mutual agreement between architects and families to build social housing in Peru

No to invisible cities.

Pay attention: this competition raises (and questions) three critical pillars of the architectural reality in Peru. On one hand, it addresses the integration of architects as citizens, whose social role is indispensable. Likewise, it seeks to make the city's forgotten sectors (and their inhabitants) visible in order to intervene in them—alongside them—by joining forces between professionals (knowledge/experience) and families (ideas/needs). Finally, it tackles a significant challenge: social housing, which is precarious and largely absent in our country, despite the latent opportunities for its relationship with public space. Behind this union of visions lies a sensitive message: we must broaden our perspective to address truly fundamental issues through architecture, in favor of creating visible cities.
