The LafargeHolcim Awards is one of the most significant global competitions in sustainable design. It seeks leading projects of professionals as well as bold ideas from the next generation that combine sustainable construction solutions with architectural excellence. Organized by the LafargeHolcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction, the competition identifies the ideas with the highest potential to tackle today’s challenges to increasing urbanization and to improve quality of life. Projects and concepts from the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, planning, technology, and civil and materials engineering are eligible to be entered online in the USD 2 million Awards competition. Entries must be submitted by March 21, 2017.

The Wienerberger Brick Award has offered a unique platform for the recognition of outstanding brick architecture of international quality since 2004. The award comprises 5 different categories, which may change depending on trends and current topics.

In 2016, prizes were awarded in the following categories: Residential Use, Public Use, Re-Use, Urban Infill, and Special Solution. In total, more than 600 projects from 55 countries were submitted. Owing to the great variety of projects, it was not an easy task for the independent, pre-jury panel to narrow down the submissions to 50 nominations. From this shortlist a jury of four internationally renowned architects (Laura Andreini, Archea Associati, Italy Johan Anrys, 51N4E, Belgium Matija Bevk, bevk perovic arhitekti, Slovenia Alfred Munkenbeck, Munkenbeck + Partners, UK) selected the winners.

A’ Design Award & Competition, the world’s largest and most diffused international design awards, has announced the results of the 2015 - 2016 design competition: 1,276 winners from 88 countries in 93 different design disciplines including arts, architecture, design, engineering and innovation. Entries were carefully evaluated by an 83-person jury, composed of established scholars, prominent press members, creative design professionals and experienced entrepreneurs.

Selected from a pool of over 220 entries, the winners of the second edition of the EeStairs Design Competition have been announced. The competition challenged entrants to trace the evolution of the staircase, designing a staircase to inspire a workspace, or a balustrade that was the perfect balance of functionality and style.

February 28th is the deadline for the A’ Design Award & Competition, an international design accolade that reaches millions of design oriented readers, brands, designers, architects and developers from countries around the world. Every year the international A’ Design Award and Competition announces an arts, architecture and design ranking of countries based on the number of A’ Design Awards won by each country over the last six years. The A’ Design Award recognizes prominent designers and architects as well as architecture offices and businesses from countries around the world, with the 2015 awards featuring winners from 83 different nations.

The six teams selected to participate in the second phase of design concept development for the New Nanoscience & Nanotechnology Center at Tel Aviv University (TAU) met representatives of the school and KB STRELKA in Tel Aviv, where a series of events were held.

After receiving over 600 projects from all over the world, a panel of architecture journalists and critics has selected the 50 shortlisted projects for the Wienerberger Brick Award 2016. The biannual architectural award is presented to outstanding examples of modern and innovative brick architecture.

Among the 2016 shortlisted projects are Sharon Davis Design’s Women’s Opportunity Center, Ateliers Jean Nouvel + MDW Architecture’s Police Headquearters & Charleroi Danses, O’Donnell + Tuomey Architects’ LSE Saw Hock Student Centre, BC Architects’ Library of Muyinga and Frank Gehry’s Dr Chau Chak Wing Building.

The University of Miami School of Architecture Center for Community and Urban Design (CUCD) teamed up with Miami-Dade County and an innovative builder of net-zero housing to talk resiliency and sustainability with students in the COAST Academy at Cutler Bay Senior High School.

3D printing has been used in architectural practice since the 1990s, and while its use for producing design models continues to be adopted, the aesthetics and stylistic potential of its output remain unexplored by many architects. In his book “Digital Craft: 3D Printing for Architectural Design,” Bryan Ratzlaff examines the relationship between the architect, the model and the 3D printer, creating a better understanding of how when integrated, these entities can lead to a refinement in the communication of architectural design with 3D printing.
