An inclusive approach to the rehabilitation of self-produced areas is essential to promote more objective and widespread knowledge production for the development of new public policies in times of planetary urbanization. To this end, the ISOB - International Seminar on Outros Bairros aims to systematize the interdisciplinary knowledge produced and experienced during the experimental period of the Outros Bairros Initiative (2019-2022), intersecting it with current urban demands. Over four days of meetings, the event will feature various sessions that will allow us to listen to the perspectives of residents from self-produced areas in Mindelo, as well as students and researchers from diverse fields, policymakers, and other participants.

Buildner has announced the results of the Dubai Urban Elements Challenge, a landmark international design competition organized in strategic collaboration with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). With a total prize fund of 2,000,000 AED (approximately €500,000), the initiative represents one of the most significant publicly funded global design competitions focused on urban transformation.
The competition was conceived as a forward-looking procurement and innovation platform for one of the world's fastest-evolving metropolitan environments. Participants were invited to propose modular, climate-responsive urban elements—seating systems, shading devices, lighting infrastructure, wayfinding components, rest areas, and micro-retail structures—designed to enhance pedestrian life and strengthen Dubai's public realm identity.

This benchmark event analyzes the role of technical wood in residential, social, and industrial construction. Against a backdrop of housing shortages and the European goal of reducing sector emissions—which, according to the International Energy Agency, account for 39% of global CO₂ emissions—the event will bring together professionals exploring industrialized wood solutions to address both affordability and the reduction of the environmental footprint of buildings.

Buildner, in collaboration with the City and County of Denver and AIA Colorado, has announced the winners of the Denver Affordable Housing Challenge, an international ideas competition exploring how affordability and design excellence can reinforce one another within the specific urban, social, and environmental context of Denver.
As the nineteenth edition in Buildner's Affordable Housing Challenge series, the competition invited architects and designers from around the world to respond to Denver's housing crisis through proposals operating at architectural, urban, and systemic scales. The brief did not prescribe a single site or typology but, rather, encouraged flexible strategies capable of addressing affordability, climate resilience, and community impact while contributing positively to Denver's urban identity.

Some of the most well-known buildings in the São Paulo landscape and in major metropolises around the world bear his signature, even if few can precisely define his architectural style. This difficulty, far from being a problem, is part of the enigma and strength of Isay Weinfeld, a creator whose work escapes easy labels and defies rigid classifications. However, reducing him solely to architecture would be a mistake. Over five decades of intense and coherent production, the São Paulo-based architect has built a trajectory that traverses design, visual arts, and cinema with rare fluidity. These multiple fronts of activity will be brought together in Etcétera, the most comprehensive exhibition dedicated to his career, which will occupy the Instituto Tomie Ohtake from March 5 to May 17.

The 11th Docomomo North and Northeast Seminar will take place from November 4 to 7, 2026, in Belém (Pará), under the theme "Modernity in Transition: Climatic [Inter]changes." The program includes lectures and roundtables, as well as paper presentations covering teaching, research, and outreach.

To celebrate the Architectural Heritage Fund's 50th anniversary, we have put together 50 Years of Reimagining Heritage, which tells the story of the difference heritage reuse can make in people's lives and in communities. Across the year, our exhibition will travel to each part of the UK, with openings in Belfast, Glasgow, Cardiff and London. We hope by showcasing these extraordinary stories to inspire more people to get involved in saving local historic buildings to improve places, empower people, and secure a sustainable future for built heritage.
