On August 23 at 7:00 PM, at IAB SP, the project Gustavo Penna 73/23 – 50 Years of Architecture, Design, and Word will launch the first volume of a five-book collection to be produced through 2023. Titled Gustavo Penna 73/83, the book covers the architect’s first decade of work, including their mentors, professional colleagues, and the early years of the firm, assembling a vast chronological puzzle.

São Paulo, April 2019 – Seven major cultural institutions located on the city’s most famous avenue are uniting for the second time to offer a full Sunday of free activities on April 28: Paulista Cultural. This pioneering initiative, organized by Casa das Rosas, Centro Cultural Fiesp, IMS Paulista, Itaú Cultural, JAPAN HOUSE São Paulo, MASP, and now Sesc Avenida Paulista—which joins the team for this edition—encompasses activities focused on theater, music, visual arts, dance, literature, photography, and gastronomy, as well as cinema.

Aleph is the first international association dedicated to the study of form, validated by the Faculty of Architecture, Design, and Urbanism at the University of Buenos Aires and the Institute of Human Spatiality. Founded on August 8, 2018, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Aleph aims to promote the study and research of form within the fields of architecture, art, urbanism, design, and any other discipline with an interest in the subject.

Reflecting on how we approach the memory and history of architecture and the city is essential to discussing which cultural heritage we are preserving. Furthermore, there is a growing discourse regarding social participation in preservation policies. However, there are few means and methods for valuing alternative meanings of heritage. In this scenario, the Participatory Cultural Reference Inventory method emerges as a potential tool for developing participatory preservation processes, adding new dimensions to the argument for the importance of cultural assets. It builds a dataset that serves as a complex image of a territory, driven by collective mobilization and dialogue among different stakeholders. In this course, we will present the Participatory Inventory method through debates on the construction of the cultural heritage field and case studies, focusing on the possibility of building new perspectives for cultural heritage in cities.

The book Parques urbanos de São Paulo (Urban Parks of São Paulo) features photographic essays documenting the daily life of thirteen parks in São Paulo, as diverse as the city and its population: parks in the center and the periphery, new and old, famous and locally known. The photos reveal the plurality of uses that residents make of these spaces, and surprise by showing them from a detached perspective, focusing equally on both planned and incidental aspects. The book launch will take place, fittingly, at Ibirapuera Park on May 11th at 11:00 AM.

Cinecubo is a film club hosted by the Institute of Architects of Brazil – São Paulo Department (IABsp), aimed at fostering dialogue between audiovisual and architectural languages and debating perspectives on the city. On the third Tuesday of every month at 7:30 PM, Cinecubo screens films followed by a discussion at the IABsp headquarters. Curated and moderated by Nana Maiolini, Travessia Filmes, and guests, the sessions are free and open to the public.

Compasso Fair - Architecture, Urbanism, and Design Publications

The concept of Smart Cities has become a recurring theme in visions of the city of the future. But what about the average citizen? If we ask acquaintances or passersby, very few have heard of the topic.

Can the workspace influence people's creativity? What are the strategies for creating a culture of innovation within a company? Will machines replace humans in the office design process? These and other topics will be discussed at WORKTECH 2019 Santiago, the international conference on the future of work, brought to Chile by Contract Workplaces, a regional company dedicated to the design and construction of high-performance workspaces.

A project by TÁCTI.CO Taller de Arquitectura, led by Juan Pablo Astudillo Cordero, which seeks to reinforce, generate, and exchange knowledge and perspectives among professionals, students, and the general public. This transdisciplinary effort will undoubtedly enhance the participants' skills.

Representation plays a pivotal role in shaping architecture. In other words, our discipline relies on various visual devices that enable its existence—such as plans, models, and renders—as well as its material realization and its mediation with the world. Consequently, we are interested in discussing the image as the primary tool for reproducing the capitalist metropolis, where its aspiration-generating elements or idealized margins recreate scenarios that are adverse to the actual needs of cities, architecture, and beyond. In architectural practice, there is a reification and an excessive importance assigned to the image over any foundation or conceptualization; despite this, we believe that discussions regarding its use remain scarce. Therefore, we have decided to convene a discussion between architects and artists to examine the implications of the visual.

Estudio Simbiotika and Archmotion are launching the Portfolio Cycle, a series of talks featuring studios and architects from the "Made in Talca" movement, showcasing a selection of projects and works completed both within and outside the Maule region in recent years. Invited speakers include Enzo Sartori/111 Arquitectos, Juan Paulo Alarcón/Surco Studio, José Miguel Mardones/Archmotion, Carlos Candia/Aplomo, and Felipe Alarcón. The first session will be led by Cristián Axl Valdés of Mutar Estudio on September 6th at 8:00 PM at Estudio Simbiotika, 8 Ote 925 (between 2 and 3 Sur), Talca.
