Currently under construction in New York City, Marriot’s AC Hotel New York NoMad is set to make history as the world’s tallest modular hotel. The 168-room, 26-story building has been prefabricated and assembled in Poland, before crossing the Atlantic to New York, where construction workers will be able to put together an entire floor in less than a week.

Simbiotika and Archmotion present the Portfolio Cycle featuring Urzúa Soler Arquitectos, a firm that seeks to enhance the spatial experience through design and construction. Their approach focuses on material development, structural modulation, the creation of intermediate spaces, and the pursuit of an architectural form that expands the possibilities of each commission. By consistently considering use, program, expression, and context, they develop habitable works that resonate with their users.

This book compiles six interviews with American artist Gordon Matta-Clark (1943–1978) conducted during the most productive years of his artistic career, from 1974—shortly after he completed his famous work Splitting, which involved cutting a condemned suburban house in half—to the year of his untimely death in 1978 at the age of 35. As an artist of few words who preferred action over theoretical statements, these interviews serve as valuable documents for gaining insight into the motivations behind his work.

As in global politics, the history of architecture has often treated refugees as mere human surplus. Consequently, conventional architectural histories have largely limited themselves to echoing the nation-state’s exclusion of refugees as people out of place. This book examines several often-overlooked yet critical intersections between mass population displacement and architecture, tracing a trajectory from the 19th and 20th centuries to the present day. By identifying the refugee as the central collective political subject of our time, this study seeks to initiate a history of refugee architecture that bridges the gap between architectural history and the study of displacement.

Thanks to its location at the northwest corner of the Aegean Sea, Thessaloniki became a multi-ethnic metropolis. Hellenes, Romans, Ottoman Turks, Slavs and Jews passed through the centuries, leaving their mark on the city's culture and architectural style.

LIGA 32: Terra e Tuma (Brazil)
"Shameless Copy."

The Brazilian firm Terra e Tuma (Fernanda Sakano, Danilo Terra, Juliana Terra, and Pedro Tuma) is rooted in experimentation.

Their project for LIGA explores the concept of copying in architecture, not as a pejorative act, but as one open to creativity. Throughout their career, their projects have been exhibited at the Venice, Rotterdam, and Quito Biennials.

Agustín Landa is an architect and a graduate of the ITESM Monterrey campus. From 2005 to 2015, he led TAL, a firm that completed various residential architecture projects and apartment buildings. In 2015, he took over the leadership of his father Agustín Landa Vertíz's firm, which became Landa + Martínez upon the addition of Rolando Martínez Rodríguez as a partner. That same year, he formed the studio Landa Suberville in partnership with Mónica Suberville.
Agustín is known for designing pioneering works that have activated new urban and real estate dynamics in rapidly growing cities. In residential design, his work has set new local trends, featuring facades closed to the exterior and interior spaces organized around terraces and gardens that leverage the region's climatic conditions.
Landa Ruiloba has been a professor of architectural design at Tec de Monterrey since 2015. Since 2017, he has co-directed the Catedra Blanca Cemex with Roberto Romero, an advanced design workshop that develops urban and architectural proposals for Monterrey.
Among many other awards, he has received the Gold Medal at the XX Nuevo León Architecture Biennial, three silver medals at the XV Mexican National Architecture Biennial, and the Prix Versailles for commercial architecture. He was also recognized as one of the "10 Firms Creating Icons of Mexico" and received the Trayectorias Award from México Design magazine.
