Winners of 4th Cycle of Abdullatif Alfozan Award for Mosque Architecture Announced in March 2023

The international master jury of the 4th cycle (2020-2023) of the Abdullatif Alfozan Award for Mosque Architecture had their second and final meeting at Kuwait last 11-13 November 2022. The meeting was chaired by Architect Rasem Badran (Saudi Arabia and Jordan) and attended by all jurors: Architect Emre Arolat (Turkey), Architect Kashif Chowdhury (Bangladesh), Artist Ahmad Mostapha (United Kingdom) and Sociologist Sari Hanafi (France).

Transforma Rio to discuss the revitalization of Downtown Rio de Janeiro

On Wednesday, November 23, starting at 9:00 AM, Estácio will host a meeting with government officials, business leaders, merchants, and others interested in initiatives to revitalize downtown Rio de Janeiro. Hosted at the MAR (Rio Art Museum) in Praça Mauá, the Transforma Rio event is free and open to the public. The 74th edition of the Revista da Biblioteca Mário de Andrade features twelve articles analyzing the contemporary state of libraries. Launched in 1943 as the Boletim Bibliográfico da Biblioteca Municipal de São Paulo, it has been published as the Revista da Biblioteca Mário de Andrade since 1992. With the theme "The Library and the City," this issue was guest-edited by Francesco Perrotta-Bosch, biographer of Lina Bo Bardi.

UNESCO - Hanoi Ad hoc - 72H International Idea Competition (Re)Thinking the modern dream of recent past


We are told that the Modern Dream came from European colonial powers that transported their model of industrial progress to colonial cities such as Hanoi, Vietnam through a “mission civilisatrice.” However, modernity was and continues to be a malleable dream. Taken up by colonialists and Vietnamese nationalists alike over the course of the 20th century, industrial development tied city (re)building to socio-economic restructuring and nation-building within the context of Vietnam’s emergence on the world stage. The industrial paradigm was not only a mode of production, but created new urban publics of laborers and consumers, from colonial subjects to a modern and self-sufficient "new Vietnamese people" in the post-independence era.
