Mass timber is emerging all across North America. Beyond the benefits of natural materials and visible structures, the capabilities of industrialized offsite construction are beginning to change the model of delivery for an increasing range of buildings. When a California owner-developer proposed the first mass timber building in the state, they chose the experience, scope, and qualifications carefully, and the entire mass timber package was delivered on a train from Quebec, Canada.

The “Technical Assistance Forum for Risk Mitigation: Institutional Action and Arrangements Regarding Socio-environmental Issues, Displacement, and Unsanitary Conditions” aims to share, critically discuss, and propose alternatives to the limitations and potential of Technical Assistance in addressing socio-environmental risks, displacement risks, and risks related to unsanitary conditions. This will be achieved through the exchange of professional experiences and the formulation of analyses regarding existing and potential institutional arrangements in the country.

The workshop invites architecture and urban planning professionals and students to develop, over five days, an architectural project for the physical and conceptual transformation of a "Space" into a "Place." The work is based on three structural elements: the theory of change as a model for controlling the design process, environmental psychology elements for the perception, reading, and transformation of lived space, and Virtual Reality (VR) applied to design development.

The Master's Degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Oviedo, through its Transportation Engineering and Infrastructure department, is launching its fifth international ideas competition for students to solicit proposals for addressing issues related to transportation networks. The competition is supported by the Mieres City Council, and as such, it focuses on interventions within its municipal boundaries.

The book 'El dominio de la envolvente. La transformación de la fachada profunda' (Mastering the Envelope: The Transformation of the Deep Façade) highlights the spatial and technical exploration surrounding the development of the building envelope in representative examples of Colombian modern architecture. Through documentary and historical research, the book presents a timeline that intersects projects, figures, and events that influenced the transformation of the façade. This intentional perspective reveals specific strategies adopted by various architects across different cities in the country, while simultaneously uncovering the defining characteristics of local modern architecture.

Architecture, as an act of human cultural artifice, has historically maintained an indissoluble relationship with Nature—as a site, enclave, environment, material, or mirror of the habitat for communal life, and as a factor of language. Both the symbolic tradition—monument, tomb, idol—and the typological tradition—temple, hut, theater, palace—form the basis of the elemental corpus of Vitruvian formulation. Whatever the artifact to be built, the natural condition is unavoidable. Fire, water, earth, and air—the elements that compose the universe according to ancient philosophy—are, in turn, constitutive of architectural thought. However, arrogance, success, or disruption over pre-existing conditions have dominated human behavior toward Nature. The current state of extreme intervention on the Earth as a planet, on geography as a foundation, on climate as a resource, or on the atmosphere as a domain, demands a critical review of the diverse perspectives that architecture has adopted according to historical, political, and cultural contingencies and their consequences on lifestyles.

Aesthetics, as a reflection on the image, cannot be understood as an immutable discipline. The perception of aesthetic values—whether related to beauty or ugliness, harmony or imbalance—has historically been determined by social, scientific, or philosophical conditions.

This Saturday, January 21, at 8:00 PM, a debate will take place between Pritzker Prize-winning architect Alejandro Aravena and Mauricio Soria, Mayor of Iquique, as part of the XXII Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism of Chile: 'Vulnerable Habitats.' The event will be held in the inflatable structure designed by Smiljan Radic and Nicolás Schmidt, currently located in Plaza Bulnes, Santiago.

This book compiles the reflections of four academics from various national universities on the city, urbanism, public space, mobility, and transportation. It is the result of "Conversaciones al costado del camino," a series of interviews developed by Corporación Pedaleable in collaboration with Ediciones de Arquitectura in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, literature on sustainable mobility and urban planning from everyday, interdisciplinary perspectives is scarce and not widely disseminated. This is what motivated us to reach out to various figures in academia, public policy, and urban practice to discuss and exchange ideas regarding the issues surrounding these concepts.

On Friday, January 20, 2023, during the Constitutive Session of the new National Board elected by our members in the 2022 CA Elections, the new Executive Board and officers of the Colegio de Arquitectos de Chile were chosen for the 2022–2024 term.
