Addressing the climate crisis requires an urgent transformation of urban lifestyles, as cities are the largest polluters and energy consumers, primarily due to the excessive use of motorized vehicles. Promoting cities where people can actively commute—on foot or by bicycle—for their daily activities is the path championed by the Instituto Caminhabilidade. To this end, the institute created the Walkable City Award (Prêmio Cidade Caminhável), which recognizes and inspires actions for walkable cities in Brazil.

On display in the Nave Expositiva at the Casa da Arquitectura, the exhibition does more than follow the linear thread of his biography or focus on the typologies of his work: the exhibition's structure is centered on the expanding geographies of the buildings and projects designed by Paulo Mendes da Rocha with his partners and colleagues between the 1960s and 2010.
