Schindler has been engineering smart, sustainable mobility since 1874, keeping cities connected and people moving.
The Schindler PORT destination-control system was implemented in the Humana Waterside Building, a 12-story renovated office complex in downtown Louisville, USA.
Originally a 1923 warehouse converted into office space in 1985, the Waterside Building spans approximately 70,000 m² and accommodates around 4,000 staff. With tenant numbers doubling since renovation, the existing elevator system had become inefficient—peak wait times reached up to 25 minutes, leading to congestion and reduced productivity.
Schindler deployed its sleek touchscreen PORT terminals in the lobby, upgrading all seven elevators in a phased schedule to avoid service interruptions. PORT’s intelligent grouping and dispatch algorithms reduced wait and travel times dramatically and introduced user-specific destination menus for regular occupants. Energy-saving features, such as adaptive screen brightness and standby mode, further supported the building’s sustainability goals.
