More about this product

A drive-in movie theater situated outside Palm Springs California uses aluminum foam from Alusion to create its screen. The structure itself consisted of a screen mounted on bubblegum-color pillars, specifically designed for the one film the cinema shows about fish. This was used in the Desert X exhibition that ran from 9 February to 21 April 2019. The theatre called "Dive In" was an installation by the Danish artist collective Superflex, and formed part of their project "Deep Sea Minding."

undefined

Concept

The installation is a response to the prospect of rising sea levels, where the film creates a future where coastal cities are underwater and their inhabitants are fish. The result blends science, art, and social activism.

Selected Material

The material selected for the installation was an aluminum foam from Alusion as its spongelike resemblance and coloring referred to coral. The specific foam selected was the Large Cell Panel. The material also referred to the car culture which is contributing to climate change.
