Rolflex specializes in manufacturing made-to-measure compact folding doors. Compact folding doors from Rolflex were used in a new area of the Depot Boijmans van Beuningen, a museum located in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
The 40-meter-high building's facade is entirely clad in mirror panels, creating reflections of the cityscape and the sky. This innovative structure serves as a repository for art that doesn't find space in the neighboring museum, making it available for public viewing. In addition, a small birch forest was planted on the roof at 35 meters high, emphasizing the project's commitment to sustainability.
There are different storage rooms with 5 different climate zones, which are tailored to the requirements of the art objects. Some floors were divided into different sections with the help of large doors.
Compact folding doors from Rolflex were used since these doors had to be both safe and usable as a partition. Neither the ventilation nor the lighting should be blocked. Compact folding doors do not need ceiling rails as they fold into a small package. This leaves the ceiling space free and no ventilation or lamps are covered.
The architect chose doors made entirely of glass panels to offer unobstructed views and enable the flow of natural light through the corridors. The doors can be opened and closed using a security pass, ensuring an additional layer of security to prevent unauthorized access.
