Sto provides materials for the energy efficiency of buildings, this includes insulated facade systems, interior paints and plasters, acoustic systems, floor coatings, and concrete restoration. For both interior and exterior finishes, they offer a coordinate-based system of 1,400 color shades that deliver various compositions.
Sto Color System is comprised of 1000 color shades for facades, 225 color shades specifically for interiors, and over 240 lacquer and wood stain color shades. The system is based on the color wheel with 72 color areas, 24 natural white nuances, 6 black tones, and a series of 48 graduations of greys.
Using the Color System
Sto offers a range of color fans, color cards, color boxes, and downloadable files that can be used with most illustration tools including Adobe Photoshop and SketchUp.
Color Tools
Sto offers professional color tools to indicate the LRV (Light Reflectance Value), and the TSC (Total Solar Reflectance) and indicate the suitability of certain Sto materials in specific applications.
- LRV
The LRV value refers to the Lightness or Brightness value indicating the amount of white or black mixed in with the color. Calculated as a percentage value with 0% lightness being pitch black.
- TSR
The TSR value describes the solar reflection capability of a pigmented surface. It represents the percentage of solar radiant energy that is reflected. The larger the value, the more solar radiation is reflected and therefore the lower the temperature increase of the surface compared to the surrounding temperature. The targeted use of pigments with low absorption in the near-infrared radiation range allows for very dark color tones to be chosen, reducing the surface temperature. Specifically thermally insulated surfaces can benefit from this technique in terms of longevity.

Sto offers a range of digital resources to help you design with the StoColor System color palette. Available in a variety of formats, they can help architects and designers experiment and combine a wide range of options. Textures can also be used with physically-based rendering scans of Sto surfaces, to allow photorealistic rendering and modelling. Due to the nature of screen colors and monitor calibration, color samples can provide a more accurate representation. These physical samples can also be viewed in different lighting conditions and taken to site, to assist with the decision-making process.
