More about this product

New to Iowa City’s historic Northside District, Market House is a mixed-use gathering place located at the corner of North Linn and Market streets. The vision of the new build was to revatilise the neighborhood. Consisting of 27000 square feet in building area, the building aims to create new housing options for both young professionals and retirees, who still want to live close to the business district. The design intention behind the new build was to create a building that fitted into the existing neighbourhood, which primarily consists of brick facades, while still standing out as something that is a new and modern addition to the neighborhood.

The exterior material palette brings contextuality of masonry tones with ribbed weathering steel panel on its east residential block. The west residential block is wrapped in CUPACLAD natural slate rainscreen cladding from Cupa Pizarras boldly complementing the historic brick within the neighborhood. The ground level is wrapped with sheets of weathering steel, providing durability and material warmth. When looking for the right cladding solution for the facade, Neumann Monson Architects was impressed by the CUPACLAD natural slate rainscreen cladding. Its consistent colorations, natural texture, low maintenance requirements, and extreme resistance to climate change found in Iowa City made it the right choice for the Market House.

CUPACLAD 101 Logic

The CUPACLAD 101 Logic rainscreen system consists of 40×20 cm (roughly 16” x 8”) slates installed horizontally. CUPACLAD’s 101 series offers a single fastening system with self-drilling screws while remaining invisible to avoid impacting design. CUPACLAD slate is a sustainable, natural and maintenance-free product, that ensures quick and easy installation.

Sustainable Benefits of CUPACLAD:

  • Environmentally friendly and sustainable
Natural slate is only subject to extraction and mechanical transformation; there are no chemical or heating processes involved as with alternative materials
  • Efficient as a rainscreen cladding
Now considered the most efficient system for construction envelope purposes
  • Complementary to external insulation systems
Reducing energy consumption and helping to keep the building cool in summer and temperate in winter
