More about this product

The recent redevelopment of Melbourne Airport's T2 International Arrivals Hall incorporates Sculptform Click-on Battens throughout the interiors walls, ceilings and signage. Lead Architects, Grimshaw, produced a design that exudes elegance and well-considered composition.

The design needed to leave good first impressions and allow smooth functionality. Sculptform Click-on battens, in Australian Spotted Gum, are featured throughout, most notably with their use to create the prominent illuminating ‘Melbourne’ sign - which is fast becoming iconic.

The Melbourne Sign

A large glowing sign, which reads ‘MELBOURNE‘, protrudes from a wall situated as people arrive into the terminal. It is a beautiful backdrop for travellers, illuminating the many special moments.

Sculptform's pre-construction team devised a complex custom solution to achieve the concept, which involved each batten being cut into different depths, each with recessed lighting. No batten was cut the same.

Ceiling Application

Integrated Lighting

The project includes a contemporary indoor façade spanning 420m2– the same size as a Boeing 787 Dreamliner wing area, with more seating, a larger dwelling area, and enhanced signage to improve traveller experiences.

Integrated lighting acts as a wayfinding device to guide passengers towards terminals, elevators, escalators, and restrooms. Lighting is easily integrated into Click-on Battens, as they can be cut with precision for a clean finish.
