Modernfold manufactures operable partitions, glass wall systems and accordion doors for interiors that need to change configuration over time. The Acousti-Seal® Premier® paired panel operable wall pairs the manufacturer's most economical panel construction — gypsum or MDF faces on an 18-gauge steel frame — with a configuration in which panels are hinged in groups of two and travel in a straight line, halving the number of handling operations a run requires.
Setup and storage
Because pairs fold and stack directly at the end of the run, the system needs no auxiliary storage track or additional support structure at the stacking end. The wall follows a single straight line, so the plan should reserve a pocket or storage area on that axis from the outset. For programs where the same division is set up repeatedly — banquet floors, training centers, parish halls — the reduction in setup time is generally what determines the choice over a single panel run.
Faces, finishes and weight
Panels are 3 inches (76 mm) thick, faced in gypsum or MDF board, and available in standard and premium fabric; standard, premium and heavy-duty vinyl; carpet; marker and tack board; wood veneer; plastic laminate; the client's own material; or uncovered. Hanging weight is between 6 and 8 lbs/sq.ft., the lightest in the Acousti-Seal® line. The combination of low hanging weight and board faces makes the system a common choice in fit-outs of existing buildings, where both the structure above the ceiling and the surrounding finishes are already fixed.
Acoustics, sealing and dimensions
The system is offered at 50, 47 or 28 STC, with a fixed sweep top seal and, at the bottom, an automatic A2 2-inch seal or a manual SureSet™ 2-inch seal. Opening width is unlimited and maximum height reaches 18 feet (5,486 mm), with track options #17, #14 and #30 and compatibility with the Modernfold Truss System®. Pass doors are available in a single leaf of matching construction.
